Opportunity Overview
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Rapid Response Grants provide small, fast-turnaround support for nonprofit organizations headquartered in Linn County, Iowa when an unexpected emergency expense or an unanticipated, time-sensitive community opportunity cannot reasonably wait for a regular competitive grant cycle.
Funding and Deadline
Requests may be made for up to $3,000. Applications are accepted as needed throughout the year and are usually reviewed within about two weeks. Organizations may receive one Rapid Response Grant in a 12-month period. Because this is a rolling, as-needed program, there is no fixed application deadline or deadline time zone to infer.
Eligible Applicants
Applicants must be headquartered in Linn County and either hold current IRS 501(c)(3) public-charity status or operate under a current fiscal sponsorship agreement with a 501(c)(3) organization. Funding is for organizations, not individuals, and the program is not intended to cover costs associated with starting a nonprofit.
Eligible Requests
Requests that can be, or could have been, submitted through a standard Community Foundation competitive grant cycle are not eligible. Emergency requests must arise from unexpected circumstances that jeopardize the organization, substantially limit its ability to continue its mission, or address a life-or-death situation. Emerging-opportunity requests must be time-sensitive, of broad community importance, and not reasonably anticipated through normal annual planning. The Foundation identifies unexpected programs or services, first-time funding situations, and time-sensitive equity-focused work as eligible emerging-opportunity pathways.
Application and Submission
The application is a one-page letter explaining the request, how it satisfies the Rapid Response criteria, why it is time-sensitive and could not have been planned for, and the costs included in the request. Newer organizations should also provide a brief organizational description, officers and projects, and an IRS determination letter. Applicants may request a GOapply portal link, email the application to the Foundation’s Rapid Response program officer, or mail the application to the Foundation. The published guidance does not state a mandatory matching-fund percentage.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 74/100. The program is useful for Linn County healthcare, behavioral-health, public-health, human-services, and other community-serving nonprofits when they face a genuinely unforeseen emergency expense or a time-sensitive community opportunity. Its rolling availability and approximately two-week review are valuable, but the $3,000 cap and narrow rapid-response eligibility substantially limit project scale.
N9+ Fit Score: 20/100, highly conditional. This is not a routine equipment or technology grant and should not be used as a general procurement pathway. A health nonprofit could consider technology only if the specific cost is genuinely unexpected, time-sensitive, within the $3,000 cap, and independently satisfies the Foundation’s emergency or emerging-opportunity criteria. Atlas should not introduce or sell N9+ in ordinary initial outreach for this opportunity.
Applicant Control
Do not identify a nonprofit as outreach-ready merely because it is headquartered in Linn County. Before any ORIGINAL outreach, confirm a specific unexpected emergency or emerging opportunity that appears to satisfy the Foundation’s criteria, the applicant’s legal and fiscal-sponsorship status if applicable, the one-grant-per-12-month limitation, a verified business Contact, Email Opt-Out clearance, permanent-bounce clearance, and authoritative original-send-history deduplication.
Next Action
Monitor Linn County nonprofit needs for a verified time-sensitive emergency or emerging opportunity. When a credible applicant-specific need exists, confirm fit with the Foundation, build the one-page request from verified facts and costs, and follow the applicable submission route.
