Opportunity Overview

Indiana Humanities and Indiana Landmarks are accepting applications for the 2026 Round 2 Historic Preservation Education Grant. The program supports public programs that educate Indiana residents about historic places and properties and the importance of preserving and protecting them. Supported formats can include workshops, presentations, publications, reading and discussion programs, exhibitions, documentaries, online exhibits, webinars, podcasts, tours, and other public historic-preservation education programming.

Funding and Deadline

Award amount: Up to $3,000.

Round 2 application deadline: September 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Match: At least a 100 percent nonfederal cash and/or in-kind match is required. The required match must be at least equal to the requested grant funds, and federal dollars may not be used as cost share.

Project start: Round 2 projects may begin November 15, 2026. Projects must generally be completed within one year of notification.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants include Indiana-based IRS-recognized tax-exempt organizations, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, public libraries, churches and other eligible religious institutions, and government entities. Individuals, nonregistered entities, and for-profit entities are not eligible. Fiscal sponsorship is not permitted. An organization may receive only one Historic Preservation Education Grant per calendar year.

Project Requirements

Projects must concern historic places or properties in Indiana and provide public education about historic preservation. The program is not a bricks-and-mortar preservation grant. Projects must involve qualified historic-preservation experts in planning and implementation, serve a public audience, provide an accessible program or reasonable accommodations, include a credible execution plan and timeline, and comply with the published grant requirements.

Allowable Costs and Restrictions

Grant funds may support reasonable project expenses tied to public historic-preservation education, including project personnel, expert and speaker costs, eligible travel, supplies, printing and production, venue costs, marketing, and certain indirect costs. Applicants may generally apply up to 15 percent of grant funds toward indirect costs unless a higher current federally negotiated indirect-cost rate applies and current NICRA documentation is submitted.

Grant funds may not support general operating expenses, lobbying, fundraising, endowment contributions, regranting, land or facility acquisition, construction or renovation, archival acquisitions, social services, prizes or scholarships, foreign travel, or activities outside the humanities and preservation fields. Major equipment purchases are not an eligible primary use, although limited equipment may be considered when it is only part of a broader eligible preservation-education project. Food and beverages are generally restricted unless they are an essential educational component; alcohol is prohibited.

Application Requirements and Submission

Applications must be submitted through the Indiana Humanities online grants portal. The application includes organizational and project leadership information, accessibility and federal reporting information, a detailed project description, audience, location and timeline, preservation experts and project-team information, partner details when applicable, project goals and evaluation, and a complete itemized budget.

Required uploads include the project director resume, resumes or CVs for the historic-preservation experts involved, and the completed itemized project budget. Optional uploads include additional personnel resumes, up to three letters of support, and other supporting materials. Applicants requesting indirect costs based on a federally negotiated rate above the standard allowance must include a current NICRA. A UEI is not required at application if the applicant does not yet have one, but an awardee must obtain and provide a UEI before grant funds can be paid.

Amendments and Current Status

The current official grant page lists Round 2 as open with a September 30, 2026 deadline and links the 2026 Call for Proposals, budget template, online application instructions, and application portal. No separate 2026 Round 2 amendment or addendum is identified on the current official grant page. Significant post-award changes to scope, purpose, activities, personnel, budget, or timeline require permission from the funders before execution.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. The opportunity is current and well-defined, with a precise deadline, clear eligibility, an explicit one-to-one nonfederal match, a detailed application structure, and a published budget framework. The $3,000 ceiling limits strategic value, but it is actionable for Indiana nonprofits, libraries, schools, local governments, faith institutions, museums, historical organizations, and other eligible entities with credible public preservation-education projects.

N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. This is a public historic-preservation education grant and provides no defensible basis for introducing N9+ in ordinary outreach.

QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. The program does not support clinical operations, healthcare technology procurement, or direct medical-service delivery.

Next Action

Identify only Indiana organizations with a credible current public historic-preservation education project and confirm they have not already received a Historic Preservation Education Grant in 2026. Before ORIGINAL outreach, verify the organization-specific project fit, a legitimate business Contact, Email_Opt_Out status, permanent hard-bounce status, and complete Account, Contact, Deal, Atlas_Email_Queue, and authoritative send-history deduplication. Ordinary outreach should focus on the verified grant opportunity and Atlas grant-package assistance at no cost and should not introduce N9+.
