EPA Region 5 FY2027 Tribal Indoor Radon Grants (SIRG, ALN 66.032)

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 invites federally recognized Tribal governments and Tribal consortia in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin to submit proposals for its FY2027 State Indoor Radon Grants (SIRG) program, Assistance Listing 66.032. This is applicant-facing financial assistance to develop and implement programs addressing public-health risks from radon gas; it is distinct from the Clean Air Act Section 103 and Section 105 air pollution tracks.

Individual funding and cost sharing

No universal individual applicant maximum or typical award amount is published in the FY2027 Region 5 announcement. Awards depend on appropriated funds and proposal review. Standalone SIRG projects generally require a 25% cost share in the first year and a 40% cost share in the second and later years. If SIRG funding is included in an eligible Performance Partnership Grant (PPG), no matching contribution is required. Applicants should verify the applicable funding arrangement with EPA before finalizing their budget.

Eligibility and eligible activities

Projects must seek measurable reductions in radon health risks through qualifying Tribal radon program development, community education, prevention strategies, surveys, program coordination and related environmental-health activities. EPA evaluates expected outputs/outcomes, responsible management and performance reporting. Direct radon mitigation activities are not funded by this FY2027 Region 5 announcement. Do not duplicate federal funding for the same activity, and provide required data quality procedures for environmentally related data.

Application instructions

Submit an initial proposal by October 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Central Time via email to R5ARD_Grants@epa.gov, subject FY 2027 Tribal Air Funding Announcement Proposal. Provide required Word-format documents, cover sheet, itemized budget narrative, project objective/need, tasks, measurable environmental outcomes, milestones and organizational capability. The workplan narrative is limited to 5 pages for one-year proposals or 7 pages for multi-year proposals, excluding cover and supplements. Do not submit an SF-424 full grant application at this initial stage. Unlike existing Section 105 grantees, SIRG applicants must submit a proposal for this round even if funding is to be included in a PPG. EPA anticipates selection notices in December 2026 but does not guarantee funding until an executed award notice.
