Active for invited applicants only. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs Alzheimer’s Research Program, is administering the DoW Alzheimer’s Transforming Diagnosis Award under Funding Opportunity Number HT942526AZRPTRDA, Assistance Listing 12.420. The mandatory pre-application deadline has passed, so this FY26 competition is not open to new applicant entry.
Funding and deadlines
CDMRP expects to allot approximately $3.2 million to fund about two awards. The total-cost cap is $1.5 million for a single-PI application or $1.7 million combined for applications under the Career Initiation or Transition Partnership Option. The maximum period of performance is four years. Cost sharing is not an eligibility requirement.
The pre-application was due June 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, and invitations were scheduled for August 10, 2026. Full applications from qualified invited applicants are due September 24, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The application-verification period ends September 29, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET.
What the program supports
The Transforming Diagnosis Award supports non-incremental, solutions-oriented research intended to reduce or overcome barriers to diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Preliminary data are required. Clinical research is allowed, while clinical trials and animal research are prohibited. The program encourages use of existing datasets and cohorts where appropriate and requires community collaboration for research prospectively enrolling human subjects.
Eligibility and submission controls
Eligible applicant organizations include domestic and foreign for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities. An independent investigator affiliated with an eligible organization must serve as PI. The mechanism also offers a Career Initiation or Transition Partnership Option with additional investigator requirements. Awards are made to organizations, not individuals.
Application submission is a two-step process requiring a pre-application through eBRAP and, for invited applicants, a full application. Extramural organizations submit invited full applications through Grants.gov Workspace; only intramural Department of War organizations may submit full applications through eBRAP. Because the June 22 pre-application gate has closed, Atlas will not initiate new applicant outreach for the current FY26 cycle.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 49/100. The diagnostic-research scope is relevant to specialized academic and clinical research teams, but the current cycle is inaccessible to new entrants because the mandatory pre-application and invitation stage has concluded.
Direct Dr. Miltie posture: for-profit organizations are structurally eligible, but Dr. Miltie cannot newly enter this FY26 competition without a timely pre-application and invitation. Current-cycle work must be limited to an independently verified invited team with the required diagnostic research expertise, preliminary data, human-subject protections and community collaboration where applicable, and all federal registrations and submission controls.
Next action
Maintain as an invitation-only watch through the September 24 full-application deadline. Do not begin new applicant outreach. If an already invited team seeks support, verify invitation status, PI eligibility, research design, preliminary data, applicant-specific facts, allowability, deduplication, and all required submission components before advancing.
