Opportunity Overview
Funding Watch. Alaska received $272,174,855.72 for Year 1 of the federal Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP). Alaska Department of Health is announcing Year 1 project awards on a rolling weekly basis while preparing the next funding cycle.
DOH states that it anticipates opening a new Letter of Interest and/or application period for Year 2 as early as fall 2026, with performance periods potentially beginning January 1, 2027. No Year 2 application deadline or applicant-level funding ceiling has yet been published.
Why Atlas Is Tracking This
Alaska expressly identifies technology and digital health as allowable RHTP investment areas. The state’s current guidance includes telehealth platforms, interoperability and care-coordination tools, remote patient monitoring, diagnostics, clinical decision-support tools, technology-enabled solutions for rural hospitals, software and hardware for significant IT advances, EMS technology, mobile and regionally shared services, behavioral health, maternal health, chronic disease management, workforce, and innovative care models.
Applicant Landscape
Potentially eligible organization types include health care providers, Tribes and Tribal Health Organizations, hospitals and clinics, behavioral health and substance-use treatment organizations, EMS and emergency-care entities, social-service organizations, local governments, workforce and training programs, technology and innovation partners, schools, universities and vocational education partners, child-care and early-childhood programs, provider and trade associations, and other nonprofit or community-based organizations working on health or community well-being. Final eligibility, funding limits, application requirements and deadlines will be controlled by the specific Year 2 materials when released.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 99/100. Alaska’s unusually large first-year award, explicit rural-access mission, statewide implementation scope, and anticipated Year 2 cycle make this a top-tier funding watch.
N9+ Fit Score: 98/100 conditional. The Nonagon N9+ remote physical examination platform aligns directly with several expressly supported RHTP uses, including telehealth, remote monitoring, diagnostics, technology-enabled rural care and mobile or shared service models. A direct Dr. Miltie vendor path should be treated as conditional until a specific Year 2 application, procurement, subaward, partner-selection mechanism, or applicant budget establishes vendor participation and cost allowability.
QC Healthcare Fit: 82/100 conditional. Alaska’s rural-access, behavioral-health, workforce and innovative-care priorities may create clinical-services or implementation roles, but each future solicitation or applicant project must establish the specific allowable pathway.
Current Control Points
The Year 1 LOI period closed March 11, 2026. DOH continues to post updated Year 1 funding announcements weekly. The department is also developing targeted innovation opportunities that may address complex or statewide priorities such as housing, emergency medical services, peer support, community health workforce initiatives and value-based payment models.
DOH hosted RHTP Funding Cycle Updates: Reflections and Next Steps on September 11, 2026 and posted the recording. The next applicant-facing milestone is the Alaska RHTP Applicant Convening: Celebrating Year 1, Looking Ahead to Year 2 on September 23, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage, with in-person and virtual participation. DOH states that the convening will preview Year 2 and offer theme-specific office hours for current and prospective applicants.
Next Action
Pre-position Alaska rural-health projects now. Eligible organizations should document rural access gaps, clinical workflows, target communities, existing technology, interoperability needs, staffing, measurable outcomes, partnerships, implementation readiness and sustainability. Atlas should convert this watch into specific active opportunities immediately when DOH publishes Year 2 LOI/application terms, targeted innovation solicitations, or vendor/procurement pathways.
