Broad Eligibility

Alabama based breast cancer research across basic science and population science. The Catalyst Award is for eligible early career investigators; applicants should use the current BCRFA RFP and cover sheet for controlling investigator eligibility details. Researchers currently receiving BCRFA support are not eligible, and BCRFA funds only one proposal per investigator at a time. UAB investigators generally route through O'Neal Invests unless the project falls outside those categories, or through the Catalyst Award when eligible.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas assessment: The 2026 Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama research cycle closed October 1, 2026. The cycle offered a $100,000 two-year research grant and a $25,000 Catalyst Award. Current published rules limited funds to research personnel, supplies, and services directly required for the project.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) is accepting proposals for its 2026 Alabama breast cancer research grant cycle. All areas of breast cancer research, including basic science and population science, may be considered.

Funding: BCRFA offers two award tracks. The Two Year Research Grant provides $100,000, funded as $50,000 for the first year with an additional $50,000 for a second year contingent on first year outcomes and reporting. The Catalyst Award provides $25,000 for eligible early investigators.

Deadline: Proposals are accepted from August 1 through October 1, 2026. The controlling RFP does not publish a closing clock time or time zone and states that proposals submitted after October 1 will not be considered.

Eligibility: The general research grant supports Alabama based breast cancer research across basic science and population science. The Catalyst Award is for eligible early career investigators; applicants should use the current BCRFA RFP and cover sheet for the controlling investigator eligibility details. Researchers currently receiving BCRFA support are not eligible, and BCRFA funds only one proposal per investigator at a time. UAB investigators generally should apply through O’Neal Invests unless the project falls outside those categories, or through the Catalyst Award when eligible.

Allowable costs: BCRFA funds are limited to laboratory or research personnel, supplies, and services directly required for the project. Funds may not be used for indirect costs, publication costs, travel costs, or investigator salaries, except that Catalyst Awards may use up to one half of the award for predoctoral or postdoctoral salary support. The RFP does not state a mandatory applicant match or cost share.

Required materials: The BCRFA proposal cover page, project title and award category, basic or population science classification, investigator contact information, lay abstract, any relevant prior BCRFA results, a project overview with specific aims, background, supporting data, methods and expected outcomes, a project budget, references and biographical sketches. The project overview is limited to three pages; the cover page, budget, references and biographical sketches are excluded from that page count.

Submission: Submit the full proposal as a single PDF by email to Beth Davis, President and CEO, at beth@bcrfa.org. The official RFP and cover sheet are available from BCRFA.

Atlas analysis: Atlas Opportunity Score 78/100. N9+ Fit Score 48/100, qualified as limited and project dependent. A legitimate role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform could exist only where an eligible investigator designs a scientifically appropriate breast cancer population or translational research project that requires remote physical examination or related clinical data collection and BCRFA confirms the relevant cost is allowable. Atlas does not assume that device acquisition is allowable or that every research project has an N9+ role. QC Healthcare fit is similarly project dependent.
