Opportunity Overview
The Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW) is accepting letters of intent for its 2027 MCW-Led Momentum Grants. The program supports eligible Medical College of Wisconsin-led collaborative teams pursuing new health-focused research, health workforce education and development, and research that can inform practice and improve health and health equity in Wisconsin.
Funding and Deadline
Applicants may request up to $250,000 for a project period of up to 24 months beginning July 1, 2027. AHW expects to invest approximately $4.5 million in meritorious MCW-Led Momentum projects. The required letter of intent is due October 26, 2026 at 5:00 PM CT through the online application form. Invited full proposals are due February 22, 2027.
Eligible Applicants
Every application must be led by an eligible MCW Principal Investigator who is a full-time or full-professional-effort MCW faculty member at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank and contributes at least 5% FTE for the full award period. Each application must also include at least one collaborating MCW Co-Investigator who is a full-time or full-professional-effort MCW faculty member and contributes effort throughout the award period. Additional co-investigators may come from MCW or outside institutions, and outside experts or organizations may participate as collaborators.
Program Priorities
Eligible research may include novel basic, clinical, translational, and population-health research that addresses Wisconsin health priorities. Health workforce projects may develop, adapt, implement, or evaluate innovative programs and resources to recruit, retain, prepare, and advance MCW-based or MCW-engaged health workforces. Projects must identify a health or workforce need, a gap in knowledge or practice, science-based evidence, and methods capable of demonstrating impact or meaningful progress during the project period.
Budget and Cost Rules
AHW supports direct, project-specific costs under a cost-reimbursement model. Funds may not support projects outside Wisconsin, indirect or routine operating costs, debt reduction, entertainment or alcoholic beverages, lobbying, reimbursement solely for patient care or clinical service delivery, general publishing fees, certain mature educational-program implementation expenses, stipends or flat fees/rates, or supplanting existing resources. Additional leveraging is encouraged but a mandatory matching percentage is not stated.

AHW encourages pre-application consultation. Applicants seeking feedback on a draft LOI should submit it by October 12, 2026. The LOI requires an online form, narrative PDF, and electronic signatures collected through an AHW-initiated DocuSign process after submission. Selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals.
