Opportunity Overview
The Georgia Health Initiative 2027 Building the Field of Health Advocacy Grant supports one-year projects intended to strengthen Georgia’s health advocacy ecosystem and improve health and wellbeing at the systems level. Projects may address statewide or more focused Georgia communities and may use strategies such as coalition building, strategic communications, policy research, community education, and engagement with decision-makers.
Funding
Georgia Health Initiative anticipates investing $1.36 million total. Eligible organizations may request up to $80,000 for a 12-month project. The Initiative states that 90% of an award is expected within one month of grant-agreement execution, with the final 10% after completion of grant requirements.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be an IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) public charity, a state or local government agency, or a coalition/collaborative using a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. The applicant must work in Georgia on behalf of Georgians and align with Georgia Health Initiative’s mission, vision, and values. Only one application may be submitted per organization, although an organization may participate as a partner or subcontractor on multiple applications.
Eligible and Ineligible Costs
Eligible costs include salary and benefits for project staff, project-related equipment, other direct expenses, consulting fees, project-related travel, and indirect expenses. Ineligible costs include lobbying as defined in the RFA, capital campaigns or renovations, activities exclusively benefiting members of sectarian or religious organizations, grants or scholarships to individuals, event sponsorships, existing deficits, and retroactive funding.
Deadline and Submission
Applications opened August 20, 2026 and must be submitted through Georgia Health Initiative’s SmartSimple portal by October 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. Anticipated award notification is November 6, 2026, with the first grant payment and project period beginning January 15, 2027.
Required Application Materials
The proposal narrative may not exceed six pages and must follow the RFA’s formatting rules. Applicants must also submit the Initiative’s project-budget template, organizational and project-capacity information, key staff and partner information, the organization’s current operating expense budget, recent audited financials or Form 990, and the IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter when applicable. If the budget includes a contractor or sub-recipient with expenses of $10,000 or more per year, a signed Contracted Services Confirmation Letter is required.
