Atlas Analysis

Mississippi health foundation pathway for qualifying tax-exempt organizations, specified exempt entities, and government applicants working primarily in Mississippi and committed to improving Mississippi health. The Foundation says it identifies most grantees through its own research and also provides a two-step Grant Concept Summary process. For-profit organizations are not eligible direct applicants.

Opportunity Overview

The Bower Foundation supports qualified organizations committed to improving the health of Mississippians. Its current grant process is a two-step pathway: an eligible organization first submits a Grant Concept Summary for Grant Committee review, and organizations with approved concepts are invited to submit a full grant application.

Application Timing and Funding

The current official grant pages do not state a fixed application deadline, individual award minimum or maximum, total available funding pool, or mandatory match requirement. Grant concepts are reviewed at the Foundation’s next regularly scheduled Grant Committee meeting, and the Foundation states that it will respond within 90 days after receiving a concept.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible organizations include qualifying 501(c)(3) public charities, exempt operating foundations described in Section 4940(d)(1), organizations described in Section 170(c)(1) or Section 511(a)(2)(b), and government entities or agencies. Applicants should be experienced, structured and innovative, clearly committed to improving Mississippi health, and working primarily in Mississippi. The Foundation does not support for-profit organizations, individuals, scholarships, organizations outside the United States, organizations focused outside Mississippi, or organizations lacking a Mississippi-health focus.

Submission and Review

The Grant Concept Summary asks for organization and contact information, entity type, mission/purpose, project title, project budget, proposed use of funds, target audience, project timeframe, organizational resources, and sustainability plans. UMMC faculty or staff must first obtain approval from the UMMC Vice Chancellor; Mississippi Department of Health proposals require approval from the State Health Officer. The Foundation evaluates alignment with its mission, likelihood of success, benefits relative to cost, and sustainability.

Atlas Analysis

The Foundation’s priorities include improving access to healthcare, healthy lifestyles and health outcomes for Mississippi children, innovative health policy, and innovation in healthcare learning. A Nonagon N9+ project could be a strong conditional fit when an eligible Mississippi nonprofit or public entity proposes a measurable access-to-care, rural-health, school-health, telehealth-enabled clinical workflow, or healthcare-learning initiative in which remote physical examination is genuinely necessary. N9+ Fit Score: 85/100 for an appropriately designed project; the score is conditional because the Foundation does not publish a device-specific solicitation. QC Healthcare or other Dr. Miltie implementation, workflow, training, measurement, or technology services may also be legitimate project components when justified by the applicant’s approved program design.

Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible direct applicant because the Foundation expressly excludes for-profit organizations. Dr. Miltie may instead participate only as a legitimate vendor, technology provider, research/implementation partner, or subcontractor within an eligible applicant’s approved project and budget.
