Atlas Analysis
The NIH NOURISH Autoimmunity Digital Health Challenge is a prize competition focused on applications that help people living with or at risk for autoimmune disease monitor dietary or nutritional changes alongside disease-specific and general symptoms and outcomes. Phase 1 runs October 1, 2026 through January 8, 2027, with up to 10 Phase 1 prizes of $20,000 and a total challenge purse of up to $650,000. Competitive submissions need a functioning prototype grounded in scientific rationale and should address privacy and data security, accessibility, interoperability, sustainability, and meaningful user needs.
The National Institutes of Health has launched the NOURISH (Nutrition for OUR Immune System Health): Autoimmunity Digital Health Challenge, a three-phase prize competition for digital health applications that help people living with or at risk for autoimmune disease monitor diet and nutrition alongside symptoms and other health measures.
Phase 1: registration is available now. The dedicated NOURISH challenge site, which is linked from NIH and carries the current participant FAQ, states that Phase 1 submissions open October 1, 2026 and close January 8, 2027 at 8:00 PM ET. Its FAQ also directs participants to submit the required narrative and prototype video by that same January 8 deadline. The NIH announcement page still contains one stale December 11, 2026 sentence in its How to Enter section, but the current challenge portal and FAQ resolve the operative deadline as January 8, 2027 at 8:00 PM ET. The total prize purse is up to $650,000: up to ten $20,000 Phase 1 prizes, five $30,000 Phase 2 prizes, and three $100,000 Phase 3 prizes.
Eligibility: private entities must be incorporated in and maintain a primary place of business in the United States; individual and team participants must satisfy U.S. citizenship or permanent-residency rules. Federal entities and federal employees acting within the scope of employment are not eligible. A UEI is encouraged for entities to expedite payment but is not stated as a prerequisite to enter.
Atlas fit: N9+ can be relevant as a connected physiologic-data or remote-patient-monitoring layer, but an N9+ device by itself is not responsive. A credible submission needs a functioning digital-health prototype centered on nutrition, autoimmune symptoms/outcomes, scientific rationale, user engagement, interoperability, privacy/security and a realistic path to deployment. Dr. Miltie should pursue directly only if it can legitimately supply or partner on that application-level functionality and document meaningful autoimmune-community engagement.
An NIH informational webinar is scheduled for September 14, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET. The current NOURISH challenge portal states that Phase 1 closes January 8, 2027 at 8:00 PM ET. Prospective participants can use the webinar to confirm eligibility, Phase 1 requirements, judging criteria, and participation mechanics before committing resources.
