Opportunity Overview
Open now. The Hartford Community Fund at Greater Hartford Gives is accepting 2026 proposals for community-centered projects that strengthen the wellbeing, vibrancy and resilience of Hartford. The current RFP is broad rather than disease-specific, which makes it a practical local pathway for eligible community-health, youth, school-support, maternal/family wellness and human-services projects that can show a direct benefit to Hartford residents.
Funding
Applicants may request $500-$5,000. Awards are one-year, project-based grants; reasonable administrative or overhead costs may be included, and the committee may make partial awards when resources are limited.
Deadline
Applications are due September 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Greater Hartford Gives publishes the clock time but does not separately state a time zone on the current Hartford Community Fund page or RFP, so Atlas recommends submitting early rather than inferring one.
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities, private operating foundations, eligible 509(a)(3) organizations, fiscally sponsored groups, municipalities and other local governmental agencies seeking support for purposes not typically funded by public revenue, and religious organizations for non-religious purposes. Hartford resident-led groups may apply through an eligible 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Private non-operating foundations, 501(c)(4) organizations, unaffiliated individuals, for-profit businesses and civic organizations engaged in partisan work are ineligible.
Priority Considerations
The fund will give priority consideration to organizations with annual operating budgets of $1 million or less. Organizations that have received a Hartford Community Fund grant for three consecutive years must take one year off before requesting again.
Application Controls
All applicants must use the Community Funds Common Grant Application through the Foundation’s online grant portal. Proposed projects must benefit Hartford residents. Eligible entities may submit one application per town per cycle, although organizations may apply to multiple towns in the same cycle when separate activities serve residents of each town. Applicants must hold any licenses, permits or approvals required for the proposed work, and funds cannot reimburse expenses incurred before the grant-award letter.
The common application requires organizational information, project details, a budget upload, populations served and measurement plans. Applicants should review the full RFP before submission and complete the portal well before the deadline to allow time for technical issues.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 82/100. This is a small but highly accessible local funding pathway with clear eligibility, a near-term deadline and flexible project scope. It is most useful for community-based health and human-services organizations, youth and school-support programs, and resident-led projects whose request fits the $500-$5,000 scale. Because the RFP is intentionally broad, applicants should make the Hartford resident benefit and measurable local outcome explicit rather than relying on a generic health rationale.
Next Action
Confirm direct benefit to Hartford residents, review the current RFP, verify applicant eligibility and any consecutive-grantee restriction, prepare the Common Grant Application with budget, population and measurement sections, and submit through the Greater Hartford Gives portal before September 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
