2027 Digital Financial Services Grant: Expression of Interest

The Interledger Foundation opened its 2027 Digital Financial Services Grant to support eligible financial service providers implementing interoperable payment infrastructure and piloting real-world digital financial services. The program is OPEN, with Phase 1 applications accepted from November 2 through December 11, 2026.

Individual applicant funding: Up to US $350,000 per grant for an 18-month project. The funder anticipates up to three awards. The approximately $1.05 million maximum across three such grants is a possible aggregate, not an individual award. Grants are competitive and no applicant is guaranteed funding.

Who may apply: Regulated or regulation-ready financial service providers such as credit unions, savings cooperatives, community development financial institutions, remittance providers, digital-wallet providers, and comparable financial organizations. Priority goes to implementation-ready applicants with strong technical, regulatory, compliance, operational, and governance readiness. The funder identifies Colombia, the wider Americas, and interregional connections as priorities, without stating a universal geographic exclusion in the public call.

Eligible activities and requirements: Proposed projects must integrate Interledger open-payment technology, including Rhyza and Open Payments, establish viable payment network connections and at least one peering relationship, pilot a digital financial service with actual customers or partners, and show a path to long-term sustainability. Supported work may include API integration, regulatory and compliance preparations, settlement tests, customer or partner onboarding, pilot deployments, and shared implementation documentation. No standardized match percentage, universal cost-share requirement, or all-inclusive excluded-cost list is provided in the public call; consult the funder’s Program Resource Kit for detailed rules.

First required deadline: Friday, December 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, for the Phase 1 Expression of Interest. The EOI should describe the organization, payment use case, target users, integration strategy, implementation readiness, compliance position, expected outcomes, and indicative budget; a full technical plan is not required at this stage. Only shortlisted applicants are invited to the Phase 2 full proposal, which must provide detailed integration, budget, regulatory, sustainability, and pilot plans. An EOI is not an award commitment.
