Grant opportunity
The William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund, administered by the Baltimore Community Foundation, awards competitive financial-assistance grants to qualifying Baltimore-area nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and their nonprofit fiscal agents. The current 2027 board cycle supports eligible arts-sector organizational capacity, compelling artistic and cultural programming for metropolitan Baltimore audiences, and cultural-sector collaboration.
Individual applicant funding
The funder reports a $1,500-$45,000 range of individual grants, with a typical award of $10,000. Specific awards depend on the request and funding priority. Smaller organizations with annual budgets below $75,000 may seek up to $2,500 for eligible innovative public programming through a qualifying nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Separate Working Capital Reserve and Fixed Asset Replacement Reserve mechanisms require qualifying prior grantee status and a 1:1 applicant match, with an individual reserve award limit of $10,000 per year. Do not apply the reserve grant match to all other project types.
Deadline and application stages
The next invited full proposal deadline is January 8, 2027, for the March 2027 board meeting. A two-page letter of inquiry is mandatory and must reach the funder at least one month before the full proposal deadline. The funder does not state an exact LOI submission hour or time zone. Potential applicants should confirm their LOI receipt timing directly with the funder well before the January 2027 proposal cutoff. Only applicants whose LOI aligns with the fund will be invited to submit a full application through the Baltimore Community Foundation’s GOapply portal.
Who is eligible
Applicants must be eligible 501(c)(3) public-charity arts and cultural organizations, or organizations/projects working with an eligible nonprofit fiscal agent, that serve the greater Baltimore metropolitan area and meet the published nondiscrimination requirements. Strong proposals center excellence in arts and culture, public access to artistic programming, cultural-sector organizational effectiveness, and meaningful regional collaboration. The funder does not award grants directly to individuals under this nonprofit program; artists seeking support should review its separate Baker Artist Awards program.
Funding restrictions and allowable activities
Allowable uses may include nonprofit fundraising and marketing strategy, financial and program planning, training, eligible internal technology improvements, artistic commissions and exhibitions, accessibility improvements, and cultural-sector partnerships. General operating support is invitation only. The fund generally does not support ordinary capital/endowment campaigns, annual appeals, sponsorships, replacement of lost public funding, work outside metropolitan Baltimore, religious purposes, or artistic work used merely as a vehicle for unrelated community development, healthcare or youth-development activities. Capital reserve programs are narrow exceptions with separate eligibility and matching rules.
How to apply

Invited applicants must use the GOapply funding portal and follow any additional written instructions.
