FACT 2027 Fund-a-Farmer Welfare Improvement Grants

Funding: Up to $3,500 per approved farm project. Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) anticipates approximately 60 Animal Welfare Improvement awards in its 2027 cycle. These are individual project awards, not a statement of the entire funding pool.

Application window: Opened November 1, 2026. FACT will accept only the first 300 eligible project applications; the 2027 program page does not announce a calendar-date closing deadline for this track. Applicants should not assume applications will remain open until January.

Who may apply

Eligible applicants are qualifying working independent family farms or farms operated by federally recognized Tribal entities that raise food animals for sale and meet FACT’s project and business criteria. FACT may request the farm’s Schedule F tax form or equivalent documentation before grant payment. Nonprofit organizations are not eligible under the funder’s published guidance.

What the grant supports

Projects to improve conditions for food animals, including transition to pasture-based management, increasing access to well-managed pasture, improvements in housing and welfare, and eligible certifications such as Animal Welfare Approved, Certified Humane, and Global Animal Partnership steps 4 to 5+. Certification is not mandatory for all animal-welfare improvement projects.

FACT excludes ordinary operational purchases such as animals, feed, and land, slaughter projects, and unsupported animal species. A farm may apply for both available FACT grant tracks but may receive funding for only one. Recent award history affects repeat eligibility; 2026 recipients should check the funder’s special restrictions.

Project completion: June 1, 2028. FACT expects decisions by the end of February 2027 and grant disbursements in March 2027. The public overview does not publish a universal cost-sharing or match obligation; verify all budget and attachment requirements in the current online form.
