The Yawkey Foundation is accepting 2026 Health Care Program & Small Capital Grant Initial Proposals from September 1 through September 18, 2026. Grants are available to eligible nonprofit organizations for discrete, time-bound program needs, small projects, or equipment aligned with the organization’s charitable purpose.
Funding
Program & Small Capital grants are up to $100,000 and are most often paid over one year. The Foundation expressly states that this grant type may support a piece of equipment aligned with a nonprofit’s purpose, creating a legitimate applicant-led pathway for qualified community-health nonprofits with a specific, mission-linked clinical equipment need.
Who can apply
Eligible applicants generally must be 501(c)(3) public charities providing direct programs and services in Yawkey Foundation priority geographies. The Foundation’s published geographic priorities include Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina. Public entities are not eligible. The Foundation also states that programs specific to individual public or charter schools, school districts, cities, towns, or counties are not eligible under this program.
For organizations new to the Foundation, the published guidelines generally expect an annual operating budget of at least $500,000. An organization may submit only one Initial Proposal per calendar year. Prior grantees must also satisfy applicable reporting and recent-funding requirements before a new award can move forward.
Massachusetts applicant pathway
For Massachusetts applicants, the Foundation’s priority geography covers direct-service nonprofits serving communities in Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Middlesex, and Essex counties. Eligible applicants generally must be 501(c)(3) public charities providing direct programs and services, and organizations new to the Foundation generally should have an annual operating budget of at least $500,000. Program & Small Capital Grants may support a discrete, time-bound program need, a small project, or a piece of equipment aligned with the nonprofit’s charitable purpose, with grants up to $100,000. Applicants may submit only one Initial Proposal per calendar year and must include a detailed project or program budget.
The 2026 Health Care Initial Proposal period runs September 1 through September 18, 2026. The Foundation’s public program pages identify the closing date but do not separately publish an exact cutoff time or time zone, so applicants should confirm the live portal deadline before relying on a same-day submission.
South Carolina applicant pathway
The Georgetown County geography creates a current South Carolina applicant-side opportunity. Smith Medical Clinic / Smith Free Clinic in Pawleys Island is a particularly strong candidate for qualification because it is a nonprofit direct-care organization serving low-income, uninsured Georgetown County residents. Its current services include primary and specialty care, medication support, women’s health, mental health, diabetes management, physical therapy, and vision-related care. Current public leadership materials identify Anne Faul as Interim Executive Director. Final eligibility still depends on the Foundation’s full rules, including the organization’s one-proposal-per-calendar-year status and any prior Yawkey reporting or funding conditions.
Other Georgetown County health and human-services nonprofits with documented Yawkey history or local service presence may also warrant qualification, but no organization should be treated as eligible until its current 501(c)(3) status, service geography, project scope, recent Yawkey history, and application controls are verified.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 94/100. This is a current, competitive health-care funding opportunity with an express equipment pathway and a qualified nonprofit applicant pool in both Eastern Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina.
N9+ Fit: 92/100, Path B conditional. A qualified nonprofit health-care applicant may be able to request support for an N9+ deployment when it is presented as a discrete equipment need that directly advances the applicant’s charitable health-care mission. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not the eligible applicant, so this is not a direct-vendor Path A grant application. Final N9+ allowability remains applicant- and project-specific and must be confirmed against the Foundation’s requirements.
QC Healthcare Fit: 10/100. The grant is not designed to fund personnel, consultants, or ongoing operating expenses, so recurring physician coverage is not a strong primary fit.
Application requirements and restrictions
The Foundation uses a two-step process beginning with an Initial Proposal. A detailed project or program budget specific to the request must accompany the Initial Proposal. The Foundation describes Program & Small Capital Grants as support for a discrete, time-bound program need, a small project, or equipment aligned with the nonprofit’s purpose. Published exclusions include general or ongoing operations, personnel or stipends, and consultant costs.
Deadline
The Health Care Initial Proposal submission period closes September 18, 2026. The public program and applicant-portal pages state the closing date but do not separately publish an exact clock time or time zone, so applicants should submit well before the final day.
