Grant Overview
The Clancy & Theys 1949 Fund, a donor-advised fund at Triangle Community Foundation, offers competitive grants to eligible established nonprofits advancing construction and vocational workforce education, youth programming and enrichment, and community well-being including housing affordability, health access, and essential social services. This is nonprofit financial assistance rather than a vendor procurement.
Applicant Funding and Status
Individual awards are up to $10,000. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis at the beginning of each month. Submission by the 15th of a month is recommended for review at the beginning of the following month, but the 15th is not a final grant deadline; later applications are reviewed in a subsequent month. Grant decisions are generally communicated in the second week of the month. No universal matching percentage or program-wide funding pool is published.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be nonprofit organizations operating for at least three years and serving one of the designated Clancy & Theys regions. Eligible geography includes Central Florida (Lake, Seminole, Orange, Osceola counties); North Carolina Charlotte region (Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Union counties) plus South Carolina Chester, Lancaster, and York counties; North Carolina Triangle region (Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham counties); North Carolina Wilmington region (Carteret, Columbus, Bladen, Brunswick, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender counties); South Carolina Upstate (Anderson, Greenville, Pickens, Spartanburg counties); and Virginia (Newport News). Applicants outside these regions are unlikely to be considered. An existing relationship with Clancy & Theys is encouraged but is not an absolute requirement.
Priorities, Limits, and Application Steps
Projects should show measurable community outcomes in the stated focus areas: education and training in construction and skilled trades, youth enrichment, community health and well-being, housing, or social services. Applicants that have previously applied must wait 12 months from the first application date before reapplying. The funder does not publish a comprehensive universal list of eligible expense categories or fixed matching rules; applicants should confirm proposed expenses in its portal. Verify the applicant nonprofit history and exact county, prepare a focused request and impact narrative, and apply through the online foundation portal. There is no fixed closing date.
