2026 Essex County Community Response Fund
Essex County Community Foundation (ECCF) is accepting proposals for its Fall 2026 Community Response Fund. The applicant-facing financial-assistance program provides flexible support for qualifying Essex County, Massachusetts nonprofit organizations addressing urgent community needs and developing more resilient service delivery.
Current Funding Priorities
Food Access: Respond to increased food insecurity related to SNAP eligibility changes and help residents navigate available nutrition benefits. Healthcare Access: Help MassHealth and Medicaid recipients maintain or regain coverage as eligibility requirements change. Structural Change: Explore partnerships, mergers, organizational redesign, risk assessments, and sustainable service models.
Individual Funding and Deadline
The current foundation guidelines do not publish a fixed individual award range or maximum. Applicants should request an appropriate amount consistent with the project and confirm available funding with ECCF; no unrelated program pool is substituted as an applicant award. The official application period is October 14 to November 20, 2026. The closing hour and time zone are not stated on the official public page and should be confirmed within the portal. No mandatory cash-match percentage or universal reimbursement condition is specified in the published guidelines.
Eligibility and Restrictions
Applicants must have IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax status or an eligible fiscal sponsor and must serve communities in Essex County, Massachusetts. Funding priority favors organizations based within Essex County and those not previously funded by the Community Response Fund in 2026. Fiscally sponsored standalone programs must have a separate budget and a written fiscal sponsor agreement. Grants cannot support individuals, political purposes, debt reduction, major building or land capital campaigns, endowments, or explicitly sectarian religious activities; eligible faith-based programs must be open to all without mandatory religious practice.
Selection, Submission and Reporting
Proposals should demonstrate urgent or near-term needs affected by changes in federal policy or funding, meaningful community impact, equity and inclusion, and sound financial management. Apply through the official ECCF Community Response Fund page and linked online grant portal. General-operating-support grantees have no formal reporting requirement but may receive follow-up contact; structural-change support grantees submit a brief final report. Award announcement date and exact application cutoff hour are not yet published on the current page.
