Opportunity Overview
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently accepting applications for the Vince Dooley Battlefield Trust Fund Program, a state-funded preservation grant that supports the permanent protection of qualified historic battlefield lands in Georgia. The program was launched in May 2026 and operates on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis while funding remains available.
Funding and Match
Grant awards may cover up to 50% of the appraised value of an eligible fee-simple acquisition or permanent protective interest, including a conservation or preservation easement. Applicants must provide a 1:1 match. Eligible match sources may include cash contributions, bargain-sale value, donated land value, or other eligible sources. DNR’s current public materials do not publish a separate maximum dollar award, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are Georgia state agencies whose primary mission includes protection or conservation of natural, historical, or cultural resources, and nonprofit charitable organizations primarily focused on acquiring and managing land for historic preservation purposes. Qualified properties must be Georgia battlefield lands identified in applicable National Park Service or Civil War Sites Advisory Commission preservation resources.
Eligible Activities and Preservation Requirements
Funding is limited to fee-simple acquisition or acquisition of a permanent protective interest in qualified battlefield property. Funded projects must ensure long-term protection through perpetual preservation controls and ongoing stewardship consistent with program requirements. Applications are submitted through the Georgia DNR online grants portal.
Deadline and Current Status
Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis, subject to available funding. DNR does not publish a fixed closing date or closing time for the current cycle. Because this is a genuine rolling opportunity, the Georgia lane’s 48-hour fixed-deadline outreach cutoff does not apply, but applicant-specific outreach still requires verified eligibility, a qualifying battlefield project, a verified business Contact, opt-out and bounce clearance, and full Deal/queue/send-history deduplication.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 58/100. This is an active Georgia-administered grant with clear ownership, eligible applicants, match rules, and project purpose, but it is highly specialized and has no healthcare delivery or clinical-technology pathway. N9+ Fit: 0/100. QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. Atlas should not force healthcare technology or staffing into a battlefield-preservation acquisition project.
