The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is currently receiving and processing Fiscal Year 2027 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) applications electronically through its GRANTS system. LMIG provides annual formula-based transportation funding to Georgia counties and cities for eligible local-road maintenance and improvement projects.
Funding and local match
Each local government receives a jurisdiction-specific FY2027 formula allocation based on local centerline road mileage and population relative to statewide totals. GDOT publishes the FY2027 formula amounts by county and city. The required local match is 10% or 30%, depending on the jurisdiction. Counties and cities in the River Valley Region, Central Savannah River Area, Heart of Georgia Region, and Southern Georgia Region are at the 10% match; other counties and cities are generally at the 30% match.
Eligible uses
Current GDOT guidelines identify eligible costs including preliminary engineering, construction supervision and inspection, utility adjustments or replacement, roadway patching, leveling and resurfacing, grading and paving, drainage and culvert work, intersection improvements, turn lanes, bridge repair or replacement, qualifying sidewalks within roadway right-of-way, roadway signs and striping, guardrails, signal installation or improvement, and aggregate surface course for dirt-road maintenance.
Current guidelines identify right-of-way acquisition for a county or city road, street lighting, beautification and streetscapes, walking trails and tracks, landscaping, administrative services, and parking lots as ineligible LMIG costs. Locally purchased right-of-way may count toward the required local match.
Application requirements
The LMIG application is filed electronically each year. GDOT requires a project list identifying road name, beginning and ending points, length, description of work, project cost, and estimated letting date; a cover letter summarizing the requested projects and the completion status of the prior three fiscal years of LMIG funding; and a signature page signed by the mayor or county commission chairperson with the local government seal and a notary signature and seal.
Timing and verification hold
GDOT states that it began receiving and processing FY2027 LMIG applications in July 2026. As of September 23, 2026, the current public LMIG page does not publish a statewide FY2027 submission deadline, exact closing time, or deadline-specific time zone. Atlas therefore will not infer a deadline. Applicant-specific ORIGINAL outreach remains fail-closed until the responsible GDOT District State Aid Coordinator or controlling GRANTS instructions confirm the operative submission deadline and any current-cycle amendments or additional requirements.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. LMIG is a substantial, recurring Georgia-administered infrastructure program with published FY2027 formula allocations and clearly defined local-government uses. It is not a healthcare-focused program. N9+ Fit: 0/100. QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. Atlas should not force a healthcare-technology use case into this transportation program.
