Opportunity Overview
Open now. The Kansas Historical Society State Historic Preservation Office is accepting applications for the 2027 Heritage Trust Fund Grant. The state program provides matching reimbursement funding to preserve, rehabilitate, or restore eligible historic properties in Kansas.
Funding and Deadline
The Kansas Historical Society states that approximately $1 million is awarded annually through the competitive Heritage Trust Fund process. Individual grants range from $5,000 to $100,000. The current 2027 program page states that applications opened September 1, 2026 and are due Monday, November 2, 2026. The current public program page does not publish an exact closing time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer either.
Eligibility
The property must be listed in the Register of Historic Kansas Places and/or the National Register of Historic Places. A property within a listed historic district must be identified by SHPO as a contributing property. The applicant must own the property. Local governments, private individuals, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit entities may qualify; properties owned by the State of Kansas or the federal government are not eligible.
Match Requirement
For-profit corporations must provide a 50/50 cash match. Other recipients must provide 20% of the cost of eligible project activities as match. In-kind services and indirect costs are not accepted as match.
Allowable Work
Eligible activities include professional architectural and engineering services and preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration work that complies with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Examples include repairs to walls, partitions, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, stairs, chimneys, roofing, and fire escapes. Electrical, heating and air-conditioning, plumbing, and elevators may be eligible, although the Kansas Historical Society notes that these systems are typically less competitive than higher-priority preservation needs.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 48/100. This is a legitimate Kansas capital-preservation opportunity with meaningful awards, but it is not a healthcare-specific grant. A hospital, clinic, nonprofit healthcare organization, local government, or other eligible owner could have a defensible fit only if it owns a qualifying listed historic property and the proposed work is historic preservation rather than clinical expansion.
N9+ Fit: 0/100; QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100; Direct Vendor Fit: 0/100. The program funds historic-property preservation and related professional/construction costs, not telehealth platforms, remote physical examination technology, clinical equipment, or healthcare service delivery. N9+ should not be introduced in ordinary outreach or forced into this opportunity.
Submission and Verification
Applicants should use the current 2027 Heritage Trust Fund program information and application materials provided by the Kansas Historical Society and confirm all live submission instructions, attachments, and certifications before filing. Because the current public page does not state a deadline clock time or time zone, Atlas treats those items as unresolved for automated cold outreach.
