Opportunity Overview
The Georgia Power Foundation Waters for Georgia Grant Program, administered by the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, supports conservation, restoration, and water-quality improvement projects in Georgia. For the current 2027-2028 cycle, eligible projects must be located in the Coastal, Central, or ACF/ACT regions of Georgia.
Funding and Deadline
Georgia Power states that approximately $1,500,000 is expected to be available for this cycle, with funding intended to be distributed among the selected regions and approximately one to three projects funded in each region. The program does not publish a fixed per-project minimum or maximum award on the current program page.
The controlling project-concept template requires project concepts to be submitted by email before September 30, 2026 to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. The template does not publish a closing clock time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants include governmental agencies and qualifying nonprofit organizations with active 501(c)(3) tax status, subject to the Foundation’s restrictions. Individuals, private elementary or secondary schools, religious organizations, political campaigns or causes, discriminatory organizations, and projects intended to satisfy legal or regulatory compliance obligations are not eligible.
Eligible Project Types
Projects must have a clear connection to watershed and aquatic ecosystem health. Examples include agricultural best management practices that improve water quality, aquatic and riparian habitat restoration, water conservation, groundwater recharge, floodplain reconnection, and green infrastructure that reduces water-quality impacts from stormwater runoff.
Application Process
The process begins with a two-to-three-page project concept of no more than 1,500 words. The concept must identify the project sponsor and partners, describe the environmental problem, define project activities and intended outcomes, provide an implementation timeline, and include an estimated budget and other committed or anticipated funding. Selected proponents will be invited to submit a full proposal in October 2026.
Match and Selection Strategy
The current program materials do not state a mandatory match requirement. However, Georgia Power expressly gives priority to projects that leverage cost-sharing or matching funds from private, corporate, or government sources. Projects should also connect to existing regional or watershed-scale conservation, restoration, or improvement plans and be positioned to begin delivering benefits by December 31, 2028.
Atlas Fit
Atlas Opportunity Score: 84/100. This is a meaningful Georgia foundation opportunity with substantial total funding, a short concept stage, and strong fit for established nonprofit and governmental organizations with credible watershed projects.
N9+ Fit: 0/100. QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. This is an environmental conservation and water-quality program, not a healthcare technology or clinical-services opportunity. Atlas should not force N9+ or QC Healthcare into the project design.
Next Action
Qualified Georgia organizations in the eligible regions should confirm a real project concept, document the watershed problem and expected ecological or community benefits, identify partners and co-funding, prepare the required concise concept and budget, and submit it before the published September 30, 2026 deadline wording.
