Funding
Boulder County anticipates $2 million will be available for distribution in the Fall 2026 round. There is no stated limit on an individual fire district’s request, although more than 20 eligible agencies may apply and requests may be fully or partially funded. Funds must be used within one year of award. Matching funds are not required, although applicants should disclose available match or supplemental funding.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are fire districts and fire departments that provide emergency services in Boulder County’s mountain and rural areas. An applicant must provide services within Boulder County, wholly or in part. If a district also serves areas outside Boulder County, the application must explain how grant funds will be used specifically within Boulder County. Each agency may submit only one application, and multiple requested items should be combined and prioritized within that single proposal.
Eligible uses and review criteria
Eligible uses include equipment and capital purchases or upgrades, specialized training for emergency personnel, operational enhancements that improve response capabilities, and infrastructure improvements that support emergency services. Boulder County reviews project need, agency size and available financial resources, the number of applications received, prior-cycle funding, and whether the requested amount is reasonable and clearly explained. Cooperative or cross-agency proposals are encouraged.
Application requirements
The application is submitted through Boulder County’s online Emergency Services Grant portal. Applicants must create a new registration for this grant round even if they applied in the past. The application requires organization information, two applicant contacts, a project description, requested amount, implementation readiness, match or supplemental-funding information, partial-funding priorities, sustainability, public engagement, project timeline, and an estimated cost summary.
Required supporting documents include itemized documentation of requested expenses such as vendor quotes or cost estimates, the most recent annual budget or summary of annual revenues and expenditures, and a W-9 signed within the past six months. A Colorado Certificate of Good Standing is required if the applicant is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Photos or other evidence supporting the need are optional and encouraged.
