Open federal opportunity, but the mandatory preproposal deadline has passed. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is administering the DOW Combat Readiness – Medical Research Program Translational Research Award (HT942526CRRPTRA), Assistance Listing 12.420.
Funding and controlling dates
CDMRP expects approximately $4.37 million in FY26 program funding for about three awards. The total-cost cap is $2.45 million per award: up to $1.45 million for the two-year base award plus a possible $1 million one-year Option Phase if future funds are appropriated. Cost sharing is not required.
The mandatory preproposal was due August 17, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Invitation notices are scheduled for October 14, 2026. Invited full applications are due November 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
What the program supports
The award supports mature, hypothesis-driven translational trauma research intended to improve casualty survivability, point-of-injury or prolonged casualty care, and trauma-care guidance. Preliminary data are required. The proposed effort must have a minimum biomedical technology readiness level or knowledge readiness level of 4 and align to at least one FY26 CRRP focus area: battlefield diagnostics, triage and decision-aid tools; treatments; or battlefield readiness.
Preclinical or clinical research may be proposed. A small-scale pilot clinical trial may be supported only in the optional research phase. Foundational research, a clinical trial during the base award, or an advanced clinical trial in the Option Phase is not supported.
Eligibility and current-cycle control
Eligible organizations include foreign and domestic for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities, including eligible extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations. PIs must be independent investigators; mentored-position investigators such as postdoctoral or clinical fellows are not considered independent for this mechanism. A PI may be named on only one FY26 CRRP application.
Current-cycle routing is restricted to teams that submitted the required preproposal by August 17, 2026 and subsequently receive an invitation to submit a full application. Do not initiate new applicant outreach for the FY26 cycle based solely on the November full-application date.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 92/100. This is a high-value trauma-care translational mechanism for mature technologies or knowledge products with defensible military relevance and readiness at TRL/KRL 4 or above. The preferred posture is Partner-Led / Already-Preapplied Mature Trauma Translational Research Team.
Next action
Route only after confirming a timely FY26 preproposal and, when issued, an invitation to submit. Verify preliminary data, TRL/KRL maturity, military relevance, and access to all required translational, regulatory and clinical resources before applicant-specific execution.
