Open now. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is accepting applications for the DoW Reconstructive Transplant, Concept Award (HT942526RTRPCA), Assistance Listing 12.420.
Funding and deadlines
CDMRP expects approximately $600,000 in program funding for about three awards. The total-cost cap is $200,000 per award, with a maximum 18-month period of performance. Cost sharing is not required.
The mandatory Letter of Intent is due October 21, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time through eBRAP. The full application is due November 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
What the program supports
The Concept Award supports highly innovative new concepts or untested theories addressing important problems in reconstructive transplantation. Incremental advances are not the program intent. Projects must address at least one FY26 Reconstructive Transplant Research Program focus area and be responsive to the health care needs of Service Members or Veterans recovering from catastrophic injury, their families, caregivers or clinicians, as well as the public.
Preliminary data must not be included. Applications instead must provide a clear rationale and demonstrate the ability to obtain interpretable results. Clinical trials are not allowed. Human-subject or human-anatomical-substance projects are permitted only when exempt or eligible for expedited review under the cited federal regulations.
Eligibility and submission controls
Eligible applicant organizations include foreign and domestic for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities, including eligible extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations. Investigators at or above the postdoctoral-fellow level who are affiliated with an eligible organization may serve as PI. Early-career investigators are encouraged. An investigator may be named as PI on no more than two FY26 RTRP Concept Award applications.
Submission is a two-step process. The pre-application Letter of Intent is submitted through eBRAP. Extramural organizations submit the full application through Grants.gov; intramural Department of War organizations submit through eBRAP.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 88/100. This mechanism is a strong fit for innovative reconstructive-transplant research teams proposing an early-stage, high-risk idea that is not simply the next step in an established project. The prohibition on preliminary data materially distinguishes it from the companion Investigator-Initiated Research Award.
Preferred posture: Partner-Led / Innovative Reconstructive Transplant Research Team.
Next action
Prioritize qualified investigators at or above the postdoctoral level with a genuinely novel reconstructive-transplant concept, a strong scientific rationale, alignment to an FY26 RTRP focus area, and the registrations and institutional capacity needed to complete the mandatory October 21 pre-application.
