Open now. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is accepting applications for the DoW Reconstructive Transplant, Investigator-Initiated Research Award (HT942526RTRPIIRA), Assistance Listing 12.420.
Funding and deadlines
CDMRP expects approximately $8 million in program funding for about eight awards. The total-cost cap is $1 million per award, with a maximum three-year period of performance. Cost sharing is not required.
The mandatory Letter of Intent is due October 21, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time through eBRAP. The full application is due November 4, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
What the program supports
The award supports research with potential to make an important contribution to reconstructive transplantation, patient care, or quality of life. Projects may range from basic and translational research through preclinical work and clinical research in human subjects or human anatomical substances, but clinical trials are not allowed.
Applications must address at least one FY26 Reconstructive Transplant Research Program focus area, demonstrate military-relevant utility, use rigorous study design, and include preliminary or published data relevant to reconstructive transplantation that support the proposed research rationale.
Eligibility and submission controls
Eligible applicant organizations include foreign and domestic for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities, including eligible extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations. Independent investigators at all career levels affiliated with an eligible organization may serve as PI. An investigator may be named as PI on no more than two FY26 RTRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award applications.
Submission is a two-step process. The pre-application Letter of Intent is submitted through eBRAP. Extramural organizations submit the full application through Grants.gov; intramural Department of War organizations submit through eBRAP.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 90/100. This is a substantial reconstructive-transplant research opportunity for established vascularized composite allotransplantation and related translational research teams. Structural for-profit eligibility does not establish submission readiness. A credible pursuit requires a qualified independent PI, relevant preliminary evidence, access to appropriate scientific or clinical resources, and a project tied to an FY26 RTRP focus area and military-relevant need.
Preferred posture: Partner-Led / Established Reconstructive Transplant Research Team.
Next action
Prioritize qualified reconstructive-transplant investigators and institutions with relevant preliminary or published evidence, a defensible military-relevance rationale, and the registrations and infrastructure needed to complete the mandatory October 21 pre-application.
Official federal opportunity: Simpler.Grants.gov.
