The National Institutes of Health, Office of Research Infrastructure Programs and National Institute of General Medical Sciences, is accepting applications under PAR-24-259, Modern Equipment for Shared-use Biomedical Research Facilities: Advancing Research-Related Operations (S15 Clinical Trial Not Allowed).

This program supports the purchase and installation of modern equipment that improves the operations of existing shared-use biomedical research facilities, including laboratory research core facilities, animal research facilities, and similar shared research spaces. It does not support scientific research instruments or their components, and it does not support building-level infrastructure such as HVAC systems or power generators.

Deadline: New applications are due September 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. The NOFO expires September 26, 2026.

Funding: Application budgets must be at least $50,000 and may not exceed $350,000 in direct costs. The project period is one year. Cost sharing is not required. For requests involving multiple pieces of the same equipment, each main equipment piece generally must have a minimum cost of $15,000.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are U.S. public or private institutions of higher education and U.S. nonprofit organizations. Foreign organizations, non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations, and foreign components are not eligible. Only one application per institution is allowed, and only one active equipment award under the program may be held at a time.

Facility and equipment requirements: Requested equipment must be substantially used in an operational core facility, animal research facility, or similar shared-use biomedical research space and must address broad institutional research-support needs. An application requesting more than one type of equipment is nonresponsive. The PD/PI should have leadership responsibility for the shared-use facility and appropriate technical expertise; multiple PD/PIs are not allowed.

Atlas fit: This is a strong biomedical-research infrastructure opportunity for universities and nonprofit research institutions operating shared laboratory, animal, or core facilities. Dr. Miltie is not structurally eligible as a for-profit prime under this NOFO. Preferred posture: Applicant Outreach / Eligible Academic or Nonprofit Shared-Use Research Facility.
