Active for invited applicants only. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs Alzheimer’s Research Program, is administering the DoW Alzheimer’s Transforming Research Award under Funding Opportunity Number HT942526AZRPTRRA, Assistance Listing 12.420. The mandatory pre-application deadline has passed, and uninvited full applications are rejected.
Funding and deadlines
CDMRP expects to allot approximately $4 million to fund about four awards. The total-cost cap is $1 million for a single-PI application or the combined applications under the Career Initiation or Transition Partnership Option. The maximum period of performance is three years. Cost sharing is not an eligibility requirement.
The pre-application was due June 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, and invitations were scheduled for August 10, 2026. Full applications from qualified invited applicants are due September 24, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The application-verification period ends September 29, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET.
What the program supports
The Transforming Research Award supports non-incremental, well-designed research aimed at reducing risk for or preventing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, with relevance to military health, traumatic brain injury, diverse risk factors, Service Members, Veterans, their families, and the public. Preliminary data are required. Clinical research is allowed, but clinical trials and animal research are prohibited. Community collaboration is required for research prospectively enrolling human subjects.
Eligibility and submission controls
Eligible applicant organizations include domestic and foreign for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities. An independent investigator affiliated with the organization must serve as PI. The mechanism also includes a Career Initiation or Transition Partnership Option with additional investigator eligibility requirements. Awards are made to organizations, not individuals.
Application submission is a two-step process requiring a pre-application through eBRAP and, for invited applicants, a full application. Extramural organizations submit invited full applications through Grants.gov Workspace; only intramural Department of War organizations may submit full applications through eBRAP. Because the June 22 pre-application gate has closed, Atlas will not initiate new applicant outreach for this FY26 cycle.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 48/100. The scientific fit may be strong for specialized Alzheimer’s prevention and risk-reduction teams, but the current competition is closed to new entrants because the mandatory pre-application and invitation stage has concluded.
Direct Dr. Miltie posture: for-profit organizations are structurally eligible, but Dr. Miltie cannot newly enter the current FY26 competition without a timely pre-application and invitation. Any current-cycle work must be limited to an independently verified invited team with the required Alzheimer’s research expertise, preliminary data, human-subject protections where applicable, community collaboration where required, and all federal registrations and submission controls.
Next action
Maintain as an invitation-only watch through the September 24 full-application deadline. Do not begin new applicant outreach. If an already invited team requests support, verify invitation status, PI eligibility, research design, preliminary data, applicant-specific facts, allowability, deduplication, and all required submission components before advancing.
