Opportunity Overview
Open now. The American Psychological Foundation is accepting the next Direct Action Visionary Grants letters of intent through October 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM Hawaii Time (HT). Grants are available for up to $60,000 to implement established evidence-based psychological interventions or resources that address pressing community needs.
Purpose
The program supports real-world implementation of evidence-based psychological interventions and resources. Current priority areas include serving marginalized communities, reducing prejudice and stigma, preventing violence, and addressing connections between mental and physical health. Examples of responsive work include implementing or adapting established interventions, evaluating their effectiveness or sustainability in community settings, scaling proven approaches, and translating psychological knowledge into community practice.
Eligibility and Application Controls
Applicants may be individuals or organizations and do not have to be psychologists or mental health professionals. However, a qualified expert in the evidence-based intervention or resource must be centrally involved throughout the funded project. Applicants must demonstrate the competence and capacity needed to complete the proposed work.
The first stage is a letter of intent submitted through APF’s GivingData system. APF states that the LOI should address the project’s purpose and alignment with the program, goals, methods and supporting evidence, organizational or participant commitment, and evaluation plan. Full applications are by invitation only, and the live GivingData instructions control the complete invited-application requirements.
Funding and Material Restrictions
Requests may be made for up to $60,000. No mandatory cost-share requirement is identified in the current public Direct Action program guidance reviewed by Atlas. APF does not fund facility renovations or acquisitions, proof-of-concept interventions or resources, clinical trials intended to develop applications or guidelines, or pilot projects unless the intervention or resource has already been implemented in a real-world setting.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 92/100. This is a strong behavioral-health and community-impact opportunity for qualified organizations that already use, or are prepared to implement, a well-supported psychological intervention with an appropriately involved expert and a credible evaluation plan.
N9+ Fit: 5/100. The verified program is focused on implementation of evidence-based psychological interventions and resources rather than telehealth hardware, remote physical examination, diagnostics, or medical-device procurement. N9+ should not be forced into this opportunity.
Dr. Miltie/QC direct-applicant fit: not established. Kentucky behavioral-health organizations and other qualified community organizations may be appropriate applicant leads when they have a responsive evidence-based intervention and the required expert involvement.
Next Action
Kentucky organizations with an established evidence-based psychological intervention should confirm project readiness, expert participation, evaluation design, and the current GivingData LOI prompts before submission. If invited to a full application, the live APF portal and invitation materials should be treated as controlling for all required narratives, uploads, budget details, certifications, and other submission requirements.
