December 7, 2026 at 5:00 PM CST. Applications must be submitted by email to the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine contact identified on the official award page.
Funding
Up to $100,000 in total funds for one year. Funding may support salary and fringe benefits, research supplies, equipment, technical personnel, appropriate tuition and books, statistical services, and research meeting or training travel up to $5,000. Funds may not be used for mentor salary support. The official materials do not state a mandatory applicant match or cost-share requirement.
Eligibility
Applicants must be qualifying UNMC Department of Internal Medicine fellows or early-career faculty. Fellows must complete fellowship requirements and have a faculty appointment before funding. Faculty applicants must be within three years of their initial faculty appointment at the time of funding. Clinician applicants must satisfy applicable board, credentialing, licensing, and institutional good-standing requirements. Applicants must commit at least 50% professional effort to research, career development, and scholarly activities, with at least 25% devoted to the proposed project, and must have an eligible primary mentor in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine.
Application Requirements
The application is submitted as a single PDF and includes a cover page, applicant and mentor NIH biosketches, proposal title and abstract, research proposal, references, benchmarks of success, detailed budget, mentor letter or letters, division chief letter, one-page career development plan, cover letter, and applicable IRB or IACUC approval status. The research proposal is limited to six pages for the specified scientific sections.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 74/100. N9+ Fit Score: 15/100. This is a legitimate Nebraska health-research opportunity with equipment as an allowable cost, but device relevance depends entirely on an applicant-controlled research protocol and should not be presumed. Dr. Miltie is not independently eligible because the award is restricted to qualifying UNMC Internal Medicine fellows and faculty.
