The Iowa Department of Education has opened the 2026-27 Teach Iowa Scholar Program, which provides qualifying Iowa teachers with awards of up to $4,000 per year for up to five consecutive years of full-time employment in designated teacher-shortage areas.
Current Deadline
The 2026-27 application deadline is October 31, 2026. The current Department page does not publish a closing clock time or time zone. Applications are submitted through the Iowa Financial Aid Application.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold an Iowa teaching license with the endorsement corresponding to the shortage area in which they teach, be employed full time during 2026-27 in a designated shortage area at an eligible Iowa school district, area education agency, charter school, or accredited nonpublic school, and satisfy the Department’s teacher-preparation and academic-ranking requirements. Due to current funding limitations, new applications for 2026-27 are being solicited only from 2025-26, 2024-25, and 2023-24 teacher-preparation graduates; prior-year Teach Iowa Scholar recipients may apply for renewal.
Award
Selected teachers may receive up to $4,000 per year for up to five consecutive years. The award may be paid to the teacher’s federal student-loan lender or directly to the teacher, subject to the Department’s current payment rules.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 50/100. N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. This is valid Iowa education-workforce funding intelligence, but it is an individual teacher award rather than an institutional grant, procurement, school-health technology opportunity, or direct Dr. Miltie vendor path. No organization-level cold outreach or CRM Deal should be created from this opportunity.
