Required next actionEligible CCTSI investigators should review the 2027 PEET RFA and submit the required Intent to Apply by October 23, 2026 at 11:59 PM MT.

Broad Eligibility

Contact PI must be an Associate or Full Professor with an established PI funding record; MPIs must be at least Assistant Professor level. Key investigators need at least a 0.5 FTE faculty appointment and CCTSI membership. PI/MPIs must hold a qualifying primary faculty appointment at CU Anschutz, CU Boulder, CU Denver, or Colorado State University. Projects must be conducted within UCHealth, be pragmatic EHR-embedded trials with patient health outcomes, use Epic/EHR integration, and not already be funded or underway.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score 94/100. Strong investigator-led Colorado academic-health research opportunity for pragmatic, EHR-embedded trials conducted within UCHealth. The PEET program supports two-year pilot trials that use EHR integration to streamline recruitment, intervention delivery, monitoring, and outcomes work. Project fit depends on an eligible CCTSI investigator team, a genuinely pragmatic study design, UCHealth operational feasibility, and appropriate regulatory, scientific, and budget justification.

The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) Pragmatic EHR Embedded Trials (PEET) Program has opened its 2027 award cycle for one two year pilot pragmatic clinical trial conducted within UCHealth and embedded in Epic or affiliated health data infrastructure.

Mandatory intent to apply deadline: October 23, 2026 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. The intent form is competitive and determines which applicants are invited to submit a full proposal. Invited full proposals are due January 29, 2027 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. The optional pre intent informational call is September 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM MT.

Funding: One new award is planned. The project team may request up to $180,000 in direct costs over two years, capped at $90,000 per year. PEET additionally provides centralized infrastructure support valued at $120,000 over two years, for $300,000 total direct cost support. Funding is contingent on CCTSI funding from NCATS/NIH.

Eligibility and research scope

Contact principal investigators must be Associate or Full Professors with an established record of obtaining research funding as a PI. Up to two multiple PIs are allowed, including the contact PI, and MPIs must be at least Assistant Professor level. Key role investigators must hold at least a 0.5 FTE faculty appointment and must be CCTSI members at application. For PI and MPI eligibility, the RFA requires a primary faculty appointment at CU Anschutz, CU Boulder, CU Denver, or Colorado State University. Investigators without an eligible faculty appointment may participate in non key roles with an eligible partnering investigator.

Responsive projects must be pragmatic clinical trials of interventions expected to affect patient health outcomes, must be conducted within UCHealth, must use at least one Epic EHR integration feature, and must not already be funded or underway. Relevant EHR features include cohort identification, recruitment, electronic consent, randomization, intervention delivery including connection to external tools or resources, real time trial dashboards, EHR based outcomes, and patient reported outcomes.

Device research restriction: drug or device trials are limited to Phase II. Phase III and Phase IV drug or device trials are not supported. The RFA does not state a mandatory applicant match or cost share.

Application requirements

The first stage is a mandatory competitive intent to apply form with investigator information, a concise project description of up to 1,000 words, estimated sample size and feasibility, and a PEET minimum requirements and EHR integration checklist. Invited full applications require a combined PDF with the prescribed research sections, letters of support from clinical leadership, a two year budget using the required template, budget justification, current NIH format biosketches for key personnel, and institutional prior approval as applicable. Appendices are not allowed.

Allowable costs must be reasonable and directly related to the project. The RFA identifies several unallowable expense categories, including indirect costs in the submitted budget, international entities, computers, telecommunications, food, furniture, general administrative or office expenses, professional dues and fees, future grant application costs, and training unless specifically required to conduct the proposed investigation.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score: 94/100. Conditional N9+ Fit Score: 84/100. This is a strong Colorado academic health research opportunity with explicit support for pragmatic intervention trials, decentralized trial infrastructure, external tools and resources, and Phase II device trials. A legitimate role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform could exist only when an eligible CCTSI investigator has a scientifically justified UCHealth adult pragmatic trial in which the device or platform is part of the intervention or study workflow, the regulatory classification is compatible with the RFA, and all requested costs are allowable.

Dr. Miltie or QC Healthcare is not an eligible direct applicant under the RFA. The RFA does allow individuals outside CCTSI partner institutions to collaborate in non key roles with an eligible investigator, and consultant costs may be budgeted when justified. Atlas should therefore treat this as an investigator led partnership opportunity rather than a direct vendor submission. No specific investigator project or intent to apply should be assumed.
