Opportunity Overview
Great Lakes Energy Classroom Grants 2026-2027 support innovative educational programs for public and private K-12 schools serving children of Great Lakes Energy members. Great Lakes Energy particularly favors projects involving reusable technology, equipment, or materials that enrich students’ education and are not already funded through the school budget.
Funding
Great Lakes Energy will award up to $30,000 total for the 2026-2027 school year. Multiple schools in the same district may apply, but the collective maximum award is $2,000 per school district for this grant cycle. Requests may be for less than $2,000.
Deadline and Submission
Applications must be submitted through the Great Lakes Energy online SurveyMonkey application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026. The official page does not publish a time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility and Geography
Teachers and administrators of public or private K-12 schools may apply when the school has children of Great Lakes Energy members enrolled. The school or district does not itself need to receive electric service from Great Lakes Energy. Eligibility depends on the cooperative’s service footprint, which includes limited areas in 26 Michigan counties: Allegan, Antrim, Barry, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Kent, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Missaukee, Montcalm, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Oscoda, Ottawa, Otsego, and Wexford. Applicants near the service-area boundary should confirm eligibility with Great Lakes Energy.
Application Requirements
The online application requires applicant name and role, school and district information, contact information, school-administration approval, a project description, explanation of the educational use of technology, estimated project cost, outside funding needs, number of beneficiaries, school enrollment, grant-objective alignment, expected duration of benefit, and community impact. Applicants should attach supporting documentation such as an itemized list when appropriate.
Selection Criteria
Great Lakes Energy evaluates classroom innovation, enrichment of the student learning experience, the number of students affected, long-term benefit, measurable indicators of success, and application clarity. Preference is given to technology, equipment, or materials that can be reused and are not already supported by the school’s budget.
Match and Cost Share
The published program materials do not state a universal mandatory match or cost-share requirement. The application asks whether outside funds are needed, but Atlas does not treat that question as a mandatory match requirement.
Atlas Fit Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. This is a verified open Michigan school funding opportunity with a clear technology and equipment pathway, a defined deadline, and a straightforward online application. The modest $2,000 district cap limits project scale.
N9+ Fit Score: 25/100. Technology and equipment are explicitly eligible, but the program is education focused and does not specifically prioritize school health, telehealth, remote physical examinations, clinical services, or medical devices. Atlas does not force a role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible prime applicant.
