Opportunity Overview
The Maine Community Foundation 2026 Rines Thompson Fund supports community based organizations that contribute to the vibrancy of Greater Portland. The 2026 cycle includes education and youth development priorities through early childhood programming and youth programming, along with environment and conservation and arts and culture.
Funding and Deadline
The maximum award is $10,000. Applications opened July 15 and are due September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MaineCF publishes the clock time but does not state a time zone on the controlling program page, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility and Geography
The organization or project must be located in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Westbrook, or Yarmouth and must focus on environment or conservation, early childhood programming, youth programming, or arts and culture. Applicants must also meet MaineCF’s general grant eligibility and nondiscrimination requirements.
K to 12 public and private schools, higher education institutions, municipalities, government agencies, and faith based organizations are not eligible to apply. The education relevance is therefore through eligible community based organizations serving children and youth rather than direct school applicants.
Funding Type and Restrictions
Both general support and project grants are available. Collaboration is encouraged where appropriate, and a letter from the executive director of each collaborating organization is required to explain its involvement and responsibility. The program page states that funds may not be used for capital campaigns, endowments, scholarships, or camperships and incorporates MaineCF’s general exclusions.
Submission
Applications are submitted through MaineCF’s online grant system using the Apply button on the controlling program page. MaineCF also makes a Word version of the application available for review after July 15.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 72/100. This is a verified open Maine youth and education related funding opportunity with a clear applicant cap and defined Greater Portland geography, but direct school applicants are excluded and the award ceiling is modest.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The program does not present a legitimate role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform, remote clinical capability, or healthcare technology, so Atlas does not force a fit.
QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie direct vendor fit: 0/100. This is an applicant grant program, not a vendor procurement or direct contracting opportunity.
Next Action
Eligible Greater Portland community based organizations should confirm MaineCF general eligibility, select the appropriate general support or project application path, prepare any required collaboration letters, and submit through MaineCF’s online grant system before the published deadline.
