Opportunity Overview
The Trailblazer Community Investment Fund is a long-term community investment program funded by Tallgrass and administered by Nebraska Community Foundation. The fund is designed to support essential rural services along the Trailblazer pipeline system, with priority areas of early childhood development, food security, and long-term care for elders.
This is not an open public application process. Nebraska Community Foundation identifies qualifying organizations and sends invitations. An organization that believes it qualifies but has not received or cannot locate an invitation should contact the Foundation directly.
Funding and Timing
Annual grant awards are expected to range from $500 to $2,000 per eligible organization, distributed based on the number of qualified participating organizations. The broader fund is expected to distribute more than $7 million through 2035 across eligible communities in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, and Iowa.
No public application deadline or deadline time zone is posted. The program is structured around invitation-based annual funding, with two five-year funding cycles over the ten-year initiative. Continued eligibility requires annual verification and a short impact report.
Eligible Nebraska Organizations
Within Nebraska, eligible entities must be physically located in an eligible Trailblazer county, provide direct services to residents there, and generally be a nonprofit, church, or government entity. They must fall into one of the stated service categories: early childhood care and education providers participating in Nebraska Step Up to Quality; residential nursing homes that accept Medicare and Medicaid; or local food pantries. For-profit nursing homes and assisted living facilities are not eligible.
Eligible Nebraska counties are Adams, Banner, Buffalo, Butler, Cass, Clay, Dawson, Fillmore, Frontier, Gage, Gosper, Hall, Hamilton, Johnson, Kearney, Kimball, Lincoln, Merrick, Otoe, Perkins, Phelps, Platte, Polk, Saline, Sarpy, and York.
Allowable Use and Match
The Foundation states that grant funds are unrestricted and may support program expenses, operational support, or other local priorities. The current program page does not state a mandatory applicant match or cost share.
Application Mechanics
Qualifying organizations are invited by Nebraska Community Foundation and must opt in by providing the requested form responses and qualifying documentation. Grantees submit a simple annual report to remain eligible for continued funding. Questions may be sent to trailblazer@nebcommfound.org.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 86/100. This is a meaningful, recurring Nebraska-administered funding stream with clear rural-service relevance and unrestricted use, but its invitation-only structure and relatively small annual awards limit broad applicant pursuit.
N9+ Fit Score: 45/100 conditional. For a qualifying nonprofit or government-owned nursing home, unrestricted funding could potentially contribute to a legitimate remote-care or clinical-technology need. However, this fund does not specifically prioritize medical devices, telehealth, or contracted clinical services, and the annual award amount is modest. Atlas should not force a device or QC Healthcare fit. Any organization-specific pursuit should first verify that Nebraska Community Foundation actually invited that organization.
Next Action
Eligible Nebraska organizations should verify county and entity eligibility and confirm invitation status with Nebraska Community Foundation. Atlas should not initiate applicant pursuit or outreach based solely on apparent eligibility because invitation status is a controlling condition.
