Opportunity Overview
The Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) has opened the FY2027 Kansas Volunteer Firefighter Grant for eligible volunteer fire departments across Kansas. The program provides state funded, no match support for firefighter protective equipment and washing machine or extractor equipment.
Funding and Deadline
KSFM states that $500,000 total is available for the FY2027 cycle. The current public page does not publish a universal per department cash ceiling because awards are structured around eligible equipment sets rather than unrestricted cash grants.
Applications are due September 15, 2026 no later than 4:00 PM. The current official page does not publish a time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be established and recognized Kansas volunteer fire departments that employ volunteers with no full time staff. Receiving payment for runs does not disqualify a department. Applicants must also be compliant with NERIS reporting.
Federal Registration and Match
The FY2027 cycle does not use federal dollars. KSFM therefore does not require departments to register in SAM.gov for a UEI for this grant cycle. The grant requires no match.
Eligible Award Scope
The current program supports full bunker gear sets, full wildland PPE sets, and washing machine or extractor equipment. Only complete PPE sets are awarded; partial sets are not. Quotes are not required for FY2027 because KSFM has existing vendor contracts.
Submission
KSFM permits completed applications to be submitted by mail, email, fax, or through the official online application form. Current materials include the FY2027 overview, the FY2027 equipment application, and the FY2027 checklist.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 60/100. N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. The program is valuable for Kansas volunteer fire departments, but its current scope is narrowly limited to firefighter PPE and washing machine or extractor awards under KSFM vendor contracts. There is no legitimate current role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform or QC Healthcare.
Next Action
Eligible Kansas volunteer fire departments should confirm NERIS compliance, complete the current FY2027 application materials, and submit before the published deadline. Atlas should treat this as publication and control only and should not initiate N9+ or QC Healthcare outreach under the current scope.
