Opportunity Overview
James M. Cox Foundation October 2026 Grant Cycle is an open philanthropic funding opportunity for eligible nonprofit and government organizations in communities where Cox Enterprises or a subsidiary does business. The Foundation supports capital campaigns, including building construction, renovation and equipment, as well as program expansion, capacity building and special projects.
Deadline and Submission
Primary deadline: October 15, 2026. The Foundation’s public guidelines do not publish an exact closing time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Applicant maximum: No maximum award amount is published in the controlling public guidelines.
Submission: Online application portal only. First time applicants create an account and complete an eligibility quiz before accessing the application. Mailed or emailed grant requests are not accepted.
Eligibility and Key Controls
Eligible organizations must be federally tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) with non private foundation status, or an equivalent government entity under Section 170(c)(1), and must be located in a U.S. area where Cox Enterprises or a subsidiary operates. Organizations outside greater metro Atlanta must submit an endorsement letter from a regional manager or equivalent leader at the local Cox business. The Foundation also states that applicants must have an existing meaningful relationship with a Cox business in their location.
Only one request is considered per organization during a 24 month period, and organizations must wait at least 24 months from the date of their last application regardless of outcome. Pending 501(c)(3) status is not eligible.
The Foundation does not generally support scholarships, general operating expenses including annual programs, seed money or sole source funding, endowments, debt relief, fundraising events, sponsorships, conferences, seminars, political activity or certain general religious purposes.
Healthcare and Technology Relevance
Health is one of the Foundation’s four stated focus areas. The Foundation describes its health strategy as expanding access to quality care and improving the patient experience. Its current health examples include support for expanded telehealth services and smart room technology at Shepherd Center, establishing a legitimate precedent for healthcare technology within an eligible capital or expansion project.
Atlas Opportunity Score: 91/100. Strong Georgia fit for established healthcare nonprofits pursuing capital, equipment, access or service expansion projects, subject to the Foundation’s relationship and 24 month application controls.
N9+ Fit Score: 78/100, conditional. The Nonagon N9+ device and platform could have a legitimate role in an eligible healthcare access, telehealth or equipment expansion project, but device allowability is not preapproved and must be tied to an applicant specific project and budget.
QC Healthcare fit: Conditional and project dependent. The public guidelines do not establish a direct staffing or services procurement pathway.
Outreach Disposition
Publication does not authorize outreach. Applicant outreach should proceed only after confirming the organization’s Cox relationship, prior 24 month application history, project eligibility, verified contact and all Atlas send controls. Dr. Miltie is not treated as the direct applicant under the current public eligibility rules.
