Opportunity Overview
The Telluride Foundation 2026 Community Grants cycle is open for eligible nonprofit organizations and local governmental entities serving people living or working in San Miguel County, Rico, Ouray County, and west Montrose County. The Foundation awards annual competitive grants across seven focus areas, including Health, Human Services, Education, Early Childhood Development, Arts & Culture, Athletics & Outdoor Recreation, and Environment & Climate.
Funding and Deadline
Community Grants generally range from $500 to $40,000, depending on available funds and the nature of the request. The 2026 application deadline is October 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM Mountain Time. Awards are made at the end of December for distribution during the following year.
Eligibility and Geography
Eligible applicants must serve people living or working in the Telluride Foundation service area and must qualify as an IRS 501(c)(3) organization, operate under an eligible 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, or be a local government or subsidiary. Organizations that have applied for but not yet received 501(c)(3) status may apply, but funds will not be released until status is granted. Fiscal-sponsor arrangements require written consent and may not charge more than 10% of the total grant as an administrative fee.
Allowable Support
The Foundation accepts requests for general operating support, existing and new programs or projects, conferences and seminars, consulting services, matching funds, technical assistance, and start-up funding. Collaborative requests from multiple organizations are also allowed. Capital requests may include construction-related costs and large depreciable equipment. Applicants may submit two applications only when one is a capital request.
Restrictions and Match
The Foundation does not fund debt reduction, past operating deficits, grants to individuals, loans, non-educational publications, litigation, political campaigns, endowment, graduate or post-graduate research, or religious organizations for religious purposes. Operating support is not available to organizations that conduct lobbying or political-action campaigns. No mandatory applicant match or cost-share requirement is published for the Community Grants program.
Application Requirements and Submission
Applications must be submitted electronically through the Telluride Foundation Grants Portal; paper submissions are not accepted. Required supporting materials must be uploaded in PDF format. A Project Budget Detail form is required for requests that are not for general operating support. Financial-aid requests must include the participant application form, financial-aid form, and financial-aid criteria. First-time applicants are strongly encouraged to review the annual webinar and discuss fit with Foundation staff before submission.
