The Women’s Breast Health Fund (WBHF) of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is accepting Fall 2026 applications for projects serving Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties, Alabama.
The first-stage Brief Proposal is due September 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. The controlling WBHF page and the live GrantInterface application do not publish a time zone. Organizations selected to advance will be notified by October 12, 2026. The live application portal lists the invited Full Proposal deadline as November 2, 2026.
Eligibility: The current Brief Proposal form permits a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a 501(c)(3) exempt religious institution, or a governmental entity. An applicant that is none of those may use a fiscal sponsor only when there is a meaningful mission fit and an existing working relationship. A fiscal-sponsored applicant must upload a letter or signed agreement documenting the relationship, sponsor approval, charitable-use responsibility, and fund-accounting responsibilities. Private non-operating foundations are not eligible.
The WBHF supports holistic breast-cancer care across the continuum from diagnosis through long-term survivorship. Published areas of interest include patient navigation, caregiver support, education and communication tools, support of the healthcare team, long-term survivor needs, exercise and wellness, workplace education, telemedicine, sexuality, and spirituality.
The Fund does not support laboratory research or drug trials. It accepts community-based participatory research and may consider capital projects with an imminent start date when clearly relevant to the WBHF mission. Priority consideration is given to proposals addressing findings in the Fund’s 2025 Community Needs Assessment and demonstrating collaboration with other breast-cancer organizations and programs in the five-county region.
Funding: The current public opportunity materials do not publish a maximum award or total funding pool. The Brief Proposal asks for the amount requested, total project cost, proposed payment term, and start date. Applicants may request a one-time payment or funding divided over two or three years. Organizations requesting $75,000 or more must have an annual or biannual independent financial audit. No mandatory match or cost share is stated in the current public opportunity materials.
Submission: Online through the Community Foundation’s GrantInterface portal. The Brief Proposal requests project name, counties served, organization size and IRS eligibility status, funding request and total project cost, term, start date, agency description, and grant purpose. The only conditional upload identified in the current Brief Proposal preview is the fiscal-sponsor agreement when a fiscal sponsor is used.

Atlas analysis: Atlas Opportunity Score 88/100. N9+/Dr. Miltie Fit Score 82/100, qualified. Telemedicine is expressly within the Fund’s stated interests, making remote physical examination or related telehealth-enabled survivorship support a legitimate potential fit where an eligible applicant documents a real need and the Foundation confirms device, equipment, and vendor costs are allowable. The published materials do not establish those costs as automatically allowable. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not being treated as a direct applicant.
Outreach control: Because the controlling authoritative sources do not state the September 28 deadline time zone, the exact deadline is not fully verified for Atlas outreach purposes. New cold applicant outreach remains fail-closed until the time zone is authoritatively verified.
