Opportunity Overview
Great Lakes Energy (GLE) is accepting applications for its 2026-27 Classroom Grants for innovative K-12 educational projects. The program particularly favors reusable technology, equipment, and materials that enrich student learning, are not currently funded through the school budget, and offer a fresh or engaging classroom experience.
Funding and Deadline
GLE will award up to $30,000 total for the 2026-27 school year. A school district may receive a collective maximum of $2,000 in this grant cycle, even when multiple schools or projects apply. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026. GLE does not publish a time zone for that deadline, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility and Geography
Teachers and administrators of public or private K-12 schools may apply when children of Great Lakes Energy members are enrolled. The school or district does not itself need to receive electric service from GLE. GLE serves limited areas within Allegan, Antrim, Barry, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Kent, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Missaukee, Montcalm, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Oscoda, Ottawa, Otsego, and Wexford Counties. Because service coverage is partial in those counties, applicant schools must confirm current eligibility rather than relying on county location alone.
Eligible Uses and Procurement
GLE expressly prioritizes classroom technology, equipment, or materials that can be reused and enhance learning. Recent awards have supported science probeware, CNC routing equipment, 3D printers, robotics, and other STEM tools, confirming that equipment and technology are legitimate program uses. The public guidance does not publish a mandatory match or cost-share requirement, supplier registration requirement, separate vendor-procurement procedure, universal prohibited-cost list, solicitation number, or addendum/amendment schedule. Ordinary school purchasing requirements may still apply and must be verified by each applicant.
Application and Review
The application is submitted through the official form linked by GLE. Applicants are asked to describe the project and purpose, explain innovative technology use where applicable, state project cost and whether outside funding is needed, identify beneficiaries and approximate reach, provide school enrollment and project objectives, explain project longevity and community impact, and may provide supporting itemization or documentation. Published review factors include classroom innovation, learning enrichment, benefit to a significant number of students, long-term value, measurable indicators, and clarity. Program questions may be directed to Whitney Gilland at wgilland@glenergy.com or 888-485-2537, ext. 1334.
Atlas Strategic Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. This is a legitimate Michigan school funding opportunity with explicit technology and equipment allowability, a clear application window, and a simple school-facing structure, although the $2,000 district cap limits project scale.
N9+ Fit Score: 30/100, conditional education-only. Technology and equipment are expressly eligible, but Nonagon N9+ should not be forced into a general classroom request. A defensible pathway would require an eligible school to propose a genuine health-science, clinical-skills, telehealth, or career-education learning project in which the remote physical examination platform is educationally necessary and financially compatible with the $2,000 district cap. QC Healthcare clinical service delivery is not a demonstrated fit for this classroom grant.
Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible prime applicant because applicants must be teachers or administrators of qualifying public or private K-12 schools. Any supplier role would be applicant-controlled and subject to the school’s own purchasing rules; GLE does not publish a direct vendor-response pathway.
Verification Notes
No mandatory match/cost share, separate procurement rule, solicitation number, published addenda, amendments, or grant-specific FAQ beyond the current program guidance were identified on the controlling page. Applicant-specific GLE-member enrollment eligibility, school authorization, project design, budget, and procurement documentation must be independently verified and will not be fabricated by Atlas.
