Opportunity Overview
Open North Central West Virginia addiction-prevention funding opportunity. Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) is accepting applications for its 2026-27 Community Grants. The current cycle focuses on Basic Needs and Addiction Prevention. This Atlas record covers the Addiction Prevention track because it is directly relevant to behavioral health, substance-use prevention, family health, and community-based prevention work.
Funding
Qualified organizations may request up to $2,500 for addiction-prevention initiatives. The controlling source does not state a total program pool or number of awards.
Deadline
Submissions are due by September 21, 2026. The controlling YCF pages do not publish an exact clock time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one. YCF states that applicants will be notified of decisions by November 3, 2026.
Eligibility and Geography
Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or public institution. Addiction-prevention projects must serve one or more of YCF’s North Central West Virginia counties: Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, or Taylor. YCF gives county priority in this order: Preston, Taylor, Marion, Harrison, and Monongalia.
Program Requirements
Projects must be designed to lessen and alter, through education and professional support at the grassroots level, the destructive impact of alcohol and drug addiction on children and their families. YCF strongly encourages cooperative projects and collaboration with partners such as prevention coalitions, nonprofit agencies, county health departments, boards of education, probation offices, local governments, state and federal bodies, civic groups, and religious organizations. Proposals must include individuals with addiction experiences and should demonstrate awareness of current prevention best practices.
Costs and Restrictions
Capital expenditures above $1,500 are not eligible for the Addiction Prevention track because the focus is on programming. YCF’s general grant policy states that grants generally are not made for ongoing programs, annual campaigns, endowments, sectarian religious purposes, political purposes or lobbying, existing obligations or debts, or travel and participation in meetings, conferences, seminars, or study exchanges. Matching grants are a general priority, but the current Addiction Prevention guidance does not state a mandatory match percentage.
Submission and Contacts
Applications must be submitted through YCF’s online grant application system. A single application form covers the 2026-27 competitive grant programs other than Educator Mini-Grants. YCF encourages applicants to contact Laurie Abildso, Vice President, at laurie@ycfwv.org or 304-296-3433 to discuss project eligibility and fit.
N9+ and Dr. Miltie Fit
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. This opportunity is a small, programming-centered addiction-prevention grant and expressly excludes capital expenditures above $1,500. The published program does not establish a credible pathway for the Nonagon N9+ remote physical examination platform, so Atlas does not force a device fit.
QC Healthcare Fit: 15/100 conditional. Limited professional-support or program-development work could theoretically fit if applicant-led and allowable, but the award ceiling is small and the program is focused on grassroots prevention rather than clinical service delivery. Dr. Miltie direct-applicant fit: 0/100 because the eligible applicant classes are 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public institutions.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 86/100. The opportunity is current, authoritative, geographically specific, and directly relevant to behavioral-health and substance-use prevention. The principal limitations are the $2,500 maximum, the requirement to include individuals with addiction experiences, and the lack of a published deadline clock time or time zone.
Priority organization: Valley HealthCare System – Organization Opportunity Score 97/100. Valley is a nonprofit community behavioral-health provider serving Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Taylor counties and provides addiction, crisis, youth, and family services. Its service footprint covers four of the five eligible counties, including the two highest-priority counties, Preston and Taylor. Any application must still be based on Valley’s own applicant-controlled project design, lived-experience participation, budget, and internal approvals.
Next Actions
Confirm that the selected applicant has a 2026-27 grassroots prevention project serving an eligible county, includes individuals with addiction experiences, and can document the collaborative approach required by YCF. Build an applicant-controlled program budget that avoids ineligible capital costs above $1,500 and submit through YCF’s online portal before September 21, 2026.
