Last verifiedSeptember 11, 2026
Required next actionEligible South Carolina nonprofits should review the Foundation Inquiry Checklist, confirm the proposed one-time activity aligns with health care, economic mobility, or housing security and serves communities experiencing poverty, then submit through the grants portal by October 5, 2026.

Broad Eligibility

Qualifying organizations serving South Carolina communities experiencing poverty and meeting the Foundation's full Inquiry Checklist. Activities may serve any of South Carolina's 46 counties and must align with health care, economic mobility, or housing security.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score 70/100. N9+ Fit 0/100. QC Healthcare Fit 10/100 conditional. Strong healthcare-relevance for outreach/training activities, but the $1,500 cap and one-time engagement structure do not support an N9+ deployment.

Opportunity Overview

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Community Engagement Grant supports one-time or occasional outreach, events, trainings, workshops, celebrations, and other activities that engage South Carolina communities experiencing poverty. Eligible activities must align with at least one Foundation focus area: economic mobility, housing security, or health care.

Funding and Deadline

Grant requests may be up to $1,500. The final 2026 application deadline is October 5, 2026. The Foundation does not publish an exact closing time or time zone on the current program page. Round 3 award notifications are scheduled for the week of October 26.

Geography and Eligibility

Activities may serve any of South Carolina’s 46 counties. Applicants must satisfy the Foundation’s Inquiry Checklist, including alignment with the Foundation’s mission to reduce poverty, at least one year of operations, collaboration with other organizations or entities, research-, best-practice-, and/or community-informed approaches, a current operating budget, and other listed nonprofit-readiness criteria.

The Foundation does not fund work that is only directed toward children and youth younger than 18. Whole-family activities may be eligible. Organizations cannot receive more than one Foundation grant in the same year.

Allowable and Ineligible Uses

Community Engagement Grants are intended for small, one-time activities occurring within six months of the funding date. Examples include outreach, trainings, workshops, celebrations, and similar community-engagement activities. They are not intended to support an organization’s core ongoing program, such as the routine health-care services of a free medical clinic. Fundraising events, galas, and capital campaigns are ineligible.

Application Process and Selection

Applicants should first review the Foundation’s Inquiry Checklist, then submit an application through the Foundation grants portal. The Foundation also provides a preview PDF of the application form. Applications are reviewed for focus-area alignment, evidence of community input, community impact, and budget fit. Additional consideration is given to grassroots/community-led organizations, organizations serving communities of color, and organizations located in or primarily serving designated persistent-poverty counties.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score: 70/100. The grant is currently open, statewide, clearly includes health care as an eligible focus area, and has a straightforward application cycle. The small maximum award and limitation to one-time engagement activities constrain project scope.

N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The $1,500 cap and one-time engagement focus do not support a realistic Nonagon N9+ acquisition or deployment pathway. N9+ should not be forced into this opportunity.

QC Healthcare Fit: 10/100 conditional. A health-education, outreach, or training activity could theoretically involve a healthcare partner, but the grant is not intended to fund core clinical service delivery.

Direct-vendor disposition: no direct Dr. Miltie pursuit. The opportunity is structured for qualifying organizations serving communities experiencing poverty, not a vendor procurement.

Potential South Carolina Applicant Fit

Potential applicant-side review may be warranted for established South Carolina nonprofits whose one-time activities engage communities experiencing poverty around health care access, health education, or related outreach. Upper Midlands Rural Health Network is one realistic example because it is a South Carolina 501(c)(3) focused on access to care, health promotion, and education in Chester, Fairfield, and Lancaster counties; any application would still require project-specific confirmation against the Foundation’s full checklist.
