Opportunity Overview
The Arras Foundation Horizon Education Grant supports educators who create innovative learning opportunities and collaborative projects for students in Lancaster County, Great Falls, and the Lewisville area of South Carolina.
Funding and Deadlines
An eligible educator may apply for two Horizon Education Grants during the school year: one $500 grant and one multi-educator grant of up to $2,000.
The 2026-27 review deadlines are September 13, October 18, November 15, and December 13, 2026, followed by January 17, February 21, March 21, and April 18, 2027. The Foundation does not publish an exact submission time or time zone on the current program page.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are educators who teach or work at a publicly funded pre-K, elementary school, middle school, high school, or college in Lancaster County, Great Falls, or the Lewisville area.
Grant Requirements
Applicants must review the Arras Foundation Community Health Indicator Project and identify at least one priority indicator area their proposal will strengthen. They must also identify at least one competency from the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
School leadership approval is required before seeking funding. Teachers serving 3K through grade 5 must collaborate with at least one parent. Educators at the middle-school, high-school, or post-secondary level must collaborate with at least one student.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online through the Foundation’s linked application form. Applicants should be prepared to provide a list of collaborating educators with contact information and a detailed project budget using the Foundation’s template. Arras Foundation staff first review eligibility, after which the Horizon Youth Review Committee reviews applications and makes final funding decisions. Review may take one to two months.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 72/100. This is a clearly defined, recurring South Carolina education grant with multiple remaining deadlines, straightforward eligibility, and an explicit emphasis on innovative learning and community health indicators. The small award size limits project scale.
N9+ Fit Score: 5/100 conditional. A narrow fit could exist only where an eligible educator designs a legitimate instructional project involving remote physical examination, vitals, or telehealth-enabled learning. The small award size and absence of explicit medical-device allowability make N9+ a weak fit and it should not be forced.
QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. The program funds educator-led student learning projects rather than contracted clinical staffing or healthcare-service delivery.
Direct-vendor disposition: no direct pursuit. Dr. Miltie is not the eligible applicant; any participation would have to be part of a legitimate educator-led project.
Potential South Carolina Applicant Fit
Potential applicant institutions include publicly funded schools within Lancaster County School District, Great Falls-area public schools, Lewisville-area public schools, and the University of South Carolina Lancaster. Individual educator eligibility and school approval must be confirmed before application.
