Opportunity Overview
The Arras Foundation Healthy Community Grant supports transformational work that strengthens community health in Lancaster County, Fort Lawn, and Great Falls, South Carolina. The program accepts interest forms throughout the year and uses a relationship-based, multi-step process before an organization may be invited to submit a full application.
Funding and Deadline
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. The Foundation does not publish a maximum award amount or total funding pool on the current program page. For planning purposes, the Foundation states that the Healthy Community Grant process may take up to six months.
Eligibility
Eligible organizations must be located in or provide services in Lancaster County, Fort Lawn, or Great Falls, South Carolina; align with at least one Arras Community Health indicator area; be in good standing with the IRS and South Carolina Secretary of State when applicable; and have been fully operating for at least one year.
Potentially eligible organization types include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, governmental agencies, and publicly funded educational institutions. Private businesses, professional associations, startup businesses, individual requests, debt relief, travel and conferences, fundraising events, sponsorships, projects typically funded as a normal responsibility of government, and political, partisan, or religious-view promotion are not eligible.
Priority Areas and Grantmaking Guidelines
Applicants must strengthen at least one of the Foundation’s Community Health priority indicator areas: Economic Vitality, Education, Health, Natural Environment, or Social & Cultural Wellbeing. Successful seekers are expected to use data, needs assessment and/or direct community engagement; prioritize collaboration or multi-sector work; and maintain a current operating budget.
Application Process
Organizations first complete the Healthy Community Grant Interest Form. Foundation staff review eligibility, scope and mission alignment. Organizations that advance enter an exploratory conversation, may be invited to submit a letter of intent, and then may be invited to submit a full application through the Foundation’s grants-management portal.
The full application may require an organizational budget for the current fiscal year, the Foundation’s Healthy Community Grant budget template, the most recently approved strategic or business plan, recent year-end financials, the most recent audit, and supporting research. The Foundation may conduct a site visit during due diligence. Final grant decisions are made by the Arras Foundation Board of Trustees.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. This is an active, locally targeted health-and-education funding pathway with broad eligibility for nonprofits, government agencies and publicly funded educational institutions, a rolling entry point, and explicit Health and Education priority areas. The absence of a published award ceiling and the multi-stage invitation process reduce certainty.
N9+ Fit Score: 65/100 conditional. A legitimate fit could exist where an eligible Lancaster-area applicant proposes a data-supported Health project involving guided remote examinations, vitals, remote assessment, telehealth-enabled clinical encounters, or rural access to care. The Foundation does not expressly state that remote-examination devices or telehealth hardware are allowable, so any N9+ component requires applicant-specific and Foundation-specific allowability confirmation.
QC Healthcare Fit: 10/100 conditional. A service component could be relevant only if an eligible applicant’s approved project requires clinical support and the cost is allowable. No direct QC Healthcare applicant eligibility is established.
Direct-vendor disposition: Dr. Miltie is not an eligible direct applicant because private businesses are expressly excluded. Any role would need to be through a legitimate eligible applicant and an allowable project budget.
Potential South Carolina Applicant Fit
Examples of organizations with missions and geography that could merit applicant-side review, subject to Foundation confirmation and project-specific fit, include Upper Midlands Rural Health Network, Lancaster County First Steps, Lancaster County Council on Aging, local governmental agencies, and publicly funded educational institutions serving the eligible geography.
