The Healthcare Services Group Charitable Foundation (HSGCF) has opened the 2027 Patient Safety Grant for eligible Missouri Hospital Plan (MHP) member hospitals. The program supports innovative, evidence-based projects aimed directly at improving patient safety, reducing patient harm, improving outcomes, and reducing professional liability risk.
Funding: HSGCF approved a $125,000 total 2027 grant budget. Each eligible MHP member hospital may request up to $25,000, either through one application or multiple applications whose combined requests do not exceed $25,000.
Deadline: Applications are due October 16, 2026. The controlling HSG grant page requires submission by that date but does not publish an exact cutoff time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility: The applicant must be a Missouri Hospital Plan member hospital. Prior Patient Safety Grant recipients are subject to a three-year reapplication restriction. For this cycle, 2023 recipients may apply again for 2027 funding; 2024 recipients are not eligible again until the 2028 funding cycle, 2025 recipients until the 2029 funding cycle, and 2026 recipients until the 2030 funding cycle. Applicants must also agree to share project information and outcomes, submit quarterly progress reports, include a CEO or Administrator support letter, include senior-leadership support letters from collaborating partners when applicable, identify a Project Coordinator, and propose a project adaptable for other facilities or physician practices.
Program priorities and qualifications: Competitive proposals should identify a clearly supported patient-safety or quality problem, use baseline data or evidence, establish measurable goals and outcomes, include physician participation, explain implementation and project management, address sustainability and change management, and provide a realistic budget. Current HSG examples include culture of safety, patient and family engagement, workforce safety, quality improvement for defined conditions and populations, National Patient Safety Goals and Patient Safety Indicators, patient assessment, treatment and procedural safety, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, intensive care, surgery, and other high-risk areas.
Scoring: The current scoring guide weights Problem/Needs Statement at 25%, Goals/Objectives at 15%, Project Development at 25%, Project Management at 25%, and Budget at 10%. Review criteria include evidence and baseline data, potential impact, physician involvement, integration with current structures and technology, use of FMEA or another appropriate assessment method, target population, implementation methods, resources, team roles, milestones, adaptability, evaluation of change, and sustainability.
Eligible and ineligible costs: The current public 2027 materials require a proposed project budget but do not publish a categorical eligible-cost or ineligible-cost schedule. Atlas therefore does not assume that connected examination technology, telehealth equipment, subscriptions, implementation services, clinical services, or other specific cost categories are allowable without applicant and funder confirmation. A prior HSGCF Patient Safety Grant funded remote patient monitoring technology at a Missouri hospital, which demonstrates historical technology precedent, but it does not establish automatic allowability for the 2027 cycle.
Match/cost share and procurement: No mandatory non-Federal match or cost-share requirement is published in the controlling 2027 grant page. This is a charitable-foundation grant for MHP member hospitals, not a Missouri state procurement; the public materials do not require MissouriBUYS registration, bidder bonding, a solicitation number, formal vendor references, or a separate public purchasing process. Each hospital remains responsible for its own procurement, contracting, conflict-of-interest, and internal approval requirements.
Forms and submission: HSG provides a current Patient Safety Grant Details and Instructions document, fillable application, proposed project budget workbook, and scoring guide from the grant page. Applications may be submitted by email to athompson@hsg-group.com from August 17 through October 16, 2026. Applicants may also submit a draft for optional HSG Risk Management review; draft review is not required and does not guarantee eligibility, a score, or an award. The final submission must include the required application materials, proposed project budget, CEO or Administrator support letter, collaborating-partner letters if applicable, and permitted attachments.
Contacts: HSG identifies Becky Branson, MBA, Ed.D., Executive Director of the HSG Charitable Foundation, in the 2027 announcement and directs application and draft submissions to athompson@hsg-group.com. The current grant page also lists Kim Schlup, AIS, Senior Marketing & Communications Coordinator, at kschlup@hsg-group.com.
Missouri applicant targeting: The legitimate applicant universe is current MHP member hospitals that satisfy the three-year recipient cooldown. HSG’s current public homepage identifies Bothwell Regional Health Center, Harrison County Community Hospital, Missouri Delta Medical Center, Ozarks Healthcare, Phelps Health, and Putnam County Memorial Hospital as 2026 Patient Safety Grant recipients; under the 2027 rules, those hospitals are not eligible for the current cycle. Atlas will verify a hospital’s current MHP membership and recent-recipient history before any applicant-specific Deal, package, folder, contact, or outreach is created.
Atlas fit: Atlas Opportunity Score: 91/100. N9+ Fit: 72/100 conditional. Nonagon N9+ can plausibly support a hospital-led patient-safety project involving guided remote physical examinations, objective vital-sign capture, patient assessment, emergency or specialty escalation, and technology-enabled follow-up, and HSG has historical precedent for funding remote patient monitoring technology. However, the current 2027 materials do not expressly confirm N9+ hardware, software, subscriptions, implementation, or related services as allowable budget items, so Atlas will not represent them as approved without funder confirmation. QC Healthcare/other Dr. Miltie Fit: 30/100 conditional, primarily for legitimate patient-safety implementation or quality-improvement support if the applicant and funder permit such contracted services.
Dr. Miltie direct eligibility: Dr. Miltie, LLC is not a legitimate direct applicant because the applicant must be an MHP member hospital. A compliant structure, if pursued, would be an eligible MHP member hospital as applicant with Dr. Miltie participating only as a legitimate technology or implementation vendor/partner after project-specific cost allowability, hospital procurement requirements, and all applicant-controlled representations are verified.
