Opportunity Overview

The MUSC Center for Global Health Student & Trainee Travel Grant — 2026-27 Award Cycle provides international travel support for eligible MUSC students and resident trainees undertaking global-health research, service-learning, or educational projects in low- and middle-income countries.

Funding and Deadline

Awards are available up to $2,000 each. The first 2026-27 application cycle opened August 17, 2026 and closes October 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET. MUSC lists November 6, 2026 as the earliest notice of award. Funds must be used within 12 months of the award date.

Eligibility and Restrictions

This is an individual award. Student groups are not eligible. Student applicants must be registered full-time MUSC students and in good academic standing at the time of travel. Priority is given to applicants traveling for academic credit, those with longer-duration stays, and applicants who have not previously received Global Health Trainee Grant funding. Applicants may be ineligible if the same project is funded by another MUSC internal source.

Projects must be prospective rather than retroactive and may be research, service-learning, or educational in nature with well-defined goals and objectives. The award may not support conference attendance or salaries for trainees or postdoctoral fellows. Award of the grant does not itself approve travel; recipients must comply with MUSC international travel policy and obtain required International Travel Oversight Committee approval before funds are released.

Application Package and Submission

All required materials must be combined into a single PDF and emailed to global-health@musc.edu. Other submission methods are invalid. The required package includes the application cover page; a two-page proposal using Arial 11-point font and at least 0.5-inch margins; a one-page personal essay; an itemized program budget; required support letters; and a current CV or resume.

The proposal addresses activity description, applicant learning objectives, host institution or partner and on-site supervision, applicant preparation and experience, and timeline. Clinically focused programs must describe anticipated patient-care responsibilities and on-site clinical supervision.

Required letters include a host-site letter and an MUSC faculty-advisor letter. Residents and postdoctoral trainees also require an MUSC business-manager letter. Human-subjects research must have MUSC IRB approval documented before funding is released.

Allowable Travel Costs

The published budget instructions identify travel-related expenses such as pre-travel immunizations, visa or passport fees, airfare, program fees, and room and board. If total project costs exceed the award, applicants must explain how the additional funds will be secured.

Atlas Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score: 58/100. This is a legitimate healthcare-education and global-health training opportunity with clear eligibility, a verified deadline and defined application requirements, but it is a small, highly restricted individual travel award rather than an organizational healthcare-technology grant.

N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The award supports international travel and related project expenses. It does not establish funding for the Nonagon N9+ platform, remote-examination hardware, or telehealth technology.

QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. The mechanism does not procure clinical staffing or healthcare-service delivery from QC Healthcare.

Direct-vendor disposition: no pursuit. Dr. Miltie is not an eligible applicant. This is an individual MUSC student or trainee funding opportunity.
