Open now. The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is accepting applications for the DoW Breast Cancer, Clinical Research Extension Award (HT942526BCRPCREA2), Assistance Listing 12.420.
Funding and deadlines
CDMRP expects approximately $8.4 million in program funding for about one award. Cost sharing is not required.
The mandatory Letter of Intent is due November 4, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time through eBRAP. The full application is due November 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
The total-cost cap is $7 million for a single PI or $8.4 million under the Partnering PI Option, with a maximum four-year period of performance.
What the program supports
The award is designed to extend the scientific and clinical value of breast-cancer studies that are already open, ongoing, or completed. Supported work may include deeper molecular analysis of clinical samples, new correlative studies, biomarker validation, or continued clinical follow-up of patients who were already enrolled in the qualifying clinical trial or study.
The mechanism does not support initiation of a new clinical trial or study or increased enrollment in an existing study. Applicants must have the required preliminary data and access to the relevant clinical resources. The research team must include at least two breast-cancer consumer advocates.
Eligibility and submission controls
Eligible organizations include domestic and foreign for-profit and nonprofit organizations and public or private entities, subject to the detailed program-announcement requirements. Independent investigators at all academic levels or equivalent may serve as PI when affiliated with an eligible organization. Active SAM.gov, eBRAP, and Grants.gov registrations are required as applicable.
A same research project submitted under the earlier FY26 CREA opportunity may not be resubmitted under this Round 2 opportunity.
Atlas strategy
Atlas Opportunity Score: 68/100. The award is potentially valuable for established breast-cancer clinical research teams that already control a qualifying study, participant cohort, biospecimens, data, and regulatory framework and need additional follow-up or analysis.
N9+ Fit: 48/100, conditional. The Nonagon N9+ may have a legitimate supporting role for continued participant follow-up through guided remote physical examinations, vitals, or telehealth-enabled data collection if the existing protocol, IRB and regulatory framework, and funded research aims permit it. N9+ is not a breast-cancer diagnostic or treatment and should not be positioned as the centerpiece of the project.
Direct Dr. Miltie posture: although for-profit organizations may be eligible, Dr. Miltie should not be treated as submission-ready without a qualified independent PI, access to a qualifying existing breast-cancer clinical study and its participants, samples or data, appropriate preliminary evidence, two or more required consumer advocates, and compliant institutional and regulatory infrastructure. The preferred posture is partner-led.
Next action
Prioritize established breast-cancer clinical research teams with incomplete follow-up, underused biospecimens or data, or clinically important extension questions where remote examination or telehealth-enabled longitudinal data collection could legitimately strengthen the existing study.
