Opportunity Overview
Open West Virginia health and community-services funding opportunity. The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon’s 2027 Healthy Communities Initiative supports nonprofit organizations and eligible public entities providing health-related services in Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster counties.
Funding
Awards are available for up to $20,000 for a one-year grant period. A Simplified Pathway is available for requests under $5,000. The Foundation may make partial awards.
Deadline and Grant Period
The application opened August 26, 2026. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s grant management system by September 30, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. The controlling source does not state a time zone, so Atlas does not infer one. Awards are scheduled to be announced December 7, 2026, with a performance period of January 1 through December 31, 2027.
Eligibility
Applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or eligible public entities, such as libraries or health departments, and must serve clients in Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur, or Webster counties. Statewide organizations are strongly encouraged to contact a Foundation program officer before applying. Fiscal sponsorship is permitted when both the sponsor and sponsored organization/project satisfy Foundation requirements.
Focus Areas
Eligible work may include health and wellness, capacity building, food insecurity, substance use disorder, tobacco prevention and cessation, and spiritual or pastoral care. The health and wellness focus expressly includes chronic disease management, mental and behavioral health, older-adult services, oral healthcare, nutrition and physical activity, services for people experiencing homelessness, and related community health programming.
Costs and Restrictions
The Foundation does not typically fund academic scholarships, capital items over $2,500, endowments, general operating costs, indirect costs, individuals, playground equipment, vehicles, or retroactive funding. Applicants must provide organizational financial statements and an organizational budget; an audit is not required. No Letter of Inquiry is required. Applicants may submit only once per grant cycle.
N9+ and Dr. Miltie Fit
N9+ Fit Score: 25/100. The opportunity can support health and wellness or capacity-building projects, but the Foundation generally excludes capital items over $2,500 and does not specifically authorize remote-exam devices. The Nonagon N9+ remote physical examination platform should only be considered where the proposed project and cost structure clearly comply with the Foundation’s rules.
QC Healthcare Fit: 40/100 conditional. QC Healthcare services may have a legitimate fit where an eligible applicant proposes compliant health or wellness programming and the service costs are allowable. Dr. Miltie is not the intended direct applicant unless it independently meets the Foundation’s nonprofit/public-entity eligibility requirements.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 88/100. This is a verified, open, West Virginia-specific health funding opportunity with a practical award ceiling and more than 48 hours remaining. The strongest targets are eligible nonprofit health and human-service organizations and public health entities operating in the five-county service area.
Next Actions
Eligible organizations should confirm project alignment, assemble organizational financial statements and budget information, choose the appropriate application pathway, and submit through the Foundation’s grant management system no later than September 30, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. Atlas should prioritize organizations with established health, school-health, behavioral-health, chronic-disease, food-access, older-adult, or substance-use programs in the eligible counties.
